Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to manage and support enterprise server environments within a State Government agency. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining Windows server infrastructure, ensuring system stability, implementing security controls, and supporting critical applications. This role requires hands-on experience administering Active Directory environments, managing virtualized systems, and implementing backup and disaster recovery processes. The ideal candidate will proactively monitor system performance, identify potential risks, and implement preventative measures to ensure operational continuity. Experience supporting structured ITIL-based environments and compliance-driven agencies is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Windows Server environments including installation, configuration, and patch management.
• Manage Active Directory, including user provisioning, group policies, and security configurations.
• Monitor server performance and proactively resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Configure and maintain virtual environments using VMware or Hyper-V.
• Implement and test backup and disaster recovery strategies.
• Apply security patches and maintain compliance with state security policies.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network-related system issues.
• Maintain documentation of server configurations and change management logs.
• Support application deployments and ensure compatibility within infrastructure environments.
• Participate in after-hours maintenance and emergency response activities as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of experience administering Windows Server environments.
• Demonstrated experience managing Active Directory and Group Policy.
• Experience implementing patch management and system hardening practices.
• Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies.
• Experience implementing backup and recovery solutions.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues.
• Experience working within structured change management processes.
• Strong documentation skills.
• Experience supporting enterprise environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting State Government agencies.
• Familiarity with Azure or hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience implementing monitoring tools such as SolarWinds or SCOM.
