Job description

Summary:
The Engineering Intern will assist Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations teams in supporting existing product lines, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Intern will support product development, manufacturing optimization, process improvement, testing activities, and operational excellence projects. This position provides exposure to engineering design, manufacturing operations, lean initiatives, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration across engineering, quality, supply chain, production, and testing teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow written and verbal instructions to perform engineering and manufacturing tasks accurately.
Assist Engineering and Operations teams in supporting existing products, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Develop automated reports and dashboards to analyze operational and manufacturing data for business decision-making.
Identify, analyze, and solve engineering and manufacturing process issues.
Support implementation of improvements to manufacturing systems, processes, and workflows across value streams.
Assist Production Supervisors and team leaders in achieving operational and strategic objectives through process improvements.
Perform process audits and support corrective actions resulting from audit findings.
Conduct time studies and analyze work standards to identify efficiency improvements.
Assist with lean manufacturing initiatives focused on reducing waste and improving process capability.
Support root cause investigations and participate in 8D, A3, 5-Why, and other structured problem-solving activities.
Evaluate existing manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and methods to identify improvement opportunities.
Participate in engineering change activities, including updates to drawings, bills of material, work instructions, process routers, and test methods.
Document manufacturing processes through standardized work instructions and process documentation.
Evaluate non-conforming materials, parts, processes, and assemblies to determine fitness for use.
Assist in the evaluation of obsolete materials and identification of replacement components.
Participate in internal engineering validation and qualification testing activities and document results.
Support development and execution of test plans, analysis of test results, and preparation of test reports.
Generate and maintain 3D CAD models, tooling concepts, fixtures, and prototypes as required.
Collaborate with Quality, Production, Supply Chain, Testing, and Engineering teams to achieve project objectives.
Support data extraction and analysis from MRP/ERP systems.
Participate in strategic business reviews and high-performance work team activities.
Hold or participate in project review meetings to monitor progress and track action items.

Continued Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Adhere to safe work practices and contribute to a strong health, safety, and environmental culture.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
Regular, predictable attendance is required.
Must be willing to work overtime as necessary.
Occasional travel may be required (less than 10%).

Candidate skills & requirements

Education and/or Experience:
Student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree (or international equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:
Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
Familiarity with Visio, Microsoft Project, ERP/MRP systems, or similar software.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production operations.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering standards.
Ability to read and create mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic schematics.
Hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, or machining processes.
Experience leading teams, projects, or student organizations.
Strong mathematical, communication, presentation, and customer-service skills.
