**This is a true engineering management role*** People Management is a key requirement
Needs someone who can:
- Gain the engineers' respect
- Speak for the team
- Remove blockers
- Actually think about team performance and their reports individual engineer growth
Team Details
- Team size: 10-15 total
- Mix of tech leads, senior and junior engineers
- FTEs + contractors
- Onsite + nearshore/offshore
- Future: will also manage interns
What the Team Does
- Engineering projects only (fixed team)
- Projects range for example anywhere from 3 months to 13 months
- This manager needs to:
- Plan projects
- Figure out how to use the engineers effectively
- Manage execution
- Provide ongoing training and career development
A common workflow:
- Someone comes in saying they need access to certain data
- This role figures out where the data should come from
- Shapes the data however the business needs it
Right now it's often just Point A Point B, but it's getting more complex over time.
Additional Responsibilities (Non Functional)
Even though it's an engineering role, they also expect coverage on:
- Data governance- MUST HAVE DATABRICKS
- Data architecture (working with peers, alignment)
- Evangelizing the data platform
- After planning during execution:
- Create runbooks
- Knowledge transfer / documentation
Ideal Industry Background
- Comes from a regulated industry
(Banking, insurance, healthcare tech, etc.)
- Not looking for startup only backgrounds
- Needs to be comfortable navigating a structured, compliance heavy environment
