Overview
Senior Software Engineer
Location: Washington Navy Yard, Washington D.C.
Position Overview
The Senior Software Engineer will support the Naval Sea Systems Command Safety and Regulatory Compliance Directorate (NAVSEA 09), specifically the Navy Modernization Planning and Sustainability Department (NAVSEA 09P). This role is responsible for the design, development, and sustainment of software systems supporting the Navy Data Environment (NDE) and ship modernization efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions using Agile and DevOps/DevSecOps methodologies.
Maintain and enhance existing codebases and develop new applications using technologies such as .NET, Java, ColdFusion, and jQuery.
Collaborate with systems engineers, database administrators, and stakeholders to ensure software solutions meet operational requirements.
Support software architecture documentation, technical specifications, and system interface agreements.
Conduct user acceptance testing, develop test scripts, and support deployment readiness reviews.
Participate in Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and technical design reviews.
Ensure software compliance with DoD security standards and NIST SP 800-37 Risk Management Framework.
Provide Help Desk support and resolve software-related issues across NDE modules.
Responsibilities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
Agile Developer or Certified Scrum Developer certification.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in Software Engineering.
Demonstrated experience in Agile and DevOps/DevSecOps practices.
Experience supporting DoD/Navy software engineering initiatives.
Able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
15+ years of experience in DoD/Navy Software Engineering.
Experience with DoD/DoN Procedures and Policies (DoD 5000 process).
