Who We Are:

Astro & Remote Sensing section of the Department of Space Instruments and Payloads.

Objectives of this Role:

  • We are seeking an Aerospace Instrumentation Engineering Intern to support the design, integration, calibration, and testing of aerospace instrumentation and detector systems.
  • Work in a laboratory and test environment supporting optical, electronic, and electro-mechanical instruments used in remote sensing applications.
  • Emphasizes instrumentation, testing, and system characterization.
  • Summer 2026 Student position.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Assist with instrument assembly, integration, and test.
  • Support laboratory testing, calibration, and characterization of sensors and instruments.
  • Develop and execute test procedures and assist with data collection and analysis.
  • Create and update mechanical designs (fixtures, mounts, enclosures) in CAD.
  • Support system-level integration and checkout activities.
  • Use embedded software to support instrumentation control, automation, or data acquisition.
  • Document test setups, procedures, and results.

Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related degree field.
  • 0 years: Coursework or project experience in instrumentation, electronics, or remote sensing systems.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing and measurement techniques. Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
  • Basic experience with Python or C/C++ for test or control tasks.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
