Job Title: Senior ETL SQL Automation SDET
Location: Reston, VA

To support enterprise systems for a major regional health insurer, focusing on back-end testing, ETL validation, SQL development, and Java automation. Requires writing SQL on the fly, validating complex data sets, debugging Java code, and building automated test solutions in a large cloud environment. This is a hands-on technical SDET - NOT a QA Analyst.
Essential Functions - Perform technical design, coding, and back-end testing, supporting and enhancing existing applications and integrations
- Develop and execute automated unit, integration, and functional tests, including creating test scenarios, plans, and TDD/BDD-based automation
- Validate functional and non-functional requirements across APIs, ETL pipelines, and distributed systems
- Support maintenance activities, identify optimization opportunities, and contribute to planning and estimation
- Ensure adherence to DevOps, CI/CD, and code quality standards while producing interface documentation
- Provide technical support for high visibility production issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams to build resilient systems
- Participate in architectural discussions, tool evaluations, and roadmap planning
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices
Required Skills & Experience - SDET - Back-end focus
- ETL testing
- Strong SQL (expert-level): writing queries/stored procedures on demand, validating large datasets, and troubleshooting end?to?end data flows
- Java automation: triaging/fixing Java code on the fly and building/extending automation frameworks
- API testing & integration testing
- CI/CD, DevOps, and code quality practices
- Experience in cloud environments (AWS preferred)
- Experience in large enterprise-class systems
- System design, development, and debugging
- Requirements analysis and SDLC best practices
- Back-end development and integration frameworks
- Strong communication skills; able to explain complex technical issues clearly
- Advanced knowledge of SDLC and Agile methodologies
- Proven success integrating complex systems
- Proficiency in Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar languages
- Proficiency with AWS or Azure
- Advanced SQL + relational/non relational databases
- Expertise with CI/CD tools and pipelines
- Knowledge of TDD, BDD, and automated acceptance testing
- Strong understanding of code quality and promotion practices
Qualifications & Preferred Skills Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or 4 additional years of relevant experience)
- 5+ years of software development / testing experience
Preferred Skills - GenAI / LLM testing (1-3 years), including chatbots, Claude / Lambda, and prompt workflows
- Python automation
- Health insurance / healthcare domain experience
