An IBM Systems Automation Software, Systems Programmer/Administrator is responsible for implementing, administering, and supporting IBM mainframe automation solutions to ensure high availability, efficient operations, and rapid recovery from system events.
Job Summary
The IBM Systems Automation Software, Systems Programmer/Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting IBM Systems Automation products in an IBM z/OS mainframe environment. This role focuses on automating system operations, monitoring system health, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring high availability of critical business applications and infrastructure. This role will be to assist in the migration off of Broadcom''s OPS/MVS to IBM''s Systems Automation software.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IBM Systems Automation products, including IBM Systems Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS).
Develop and maintain automation policies, procedures, and recovery routines.
Configure automated startup, shutdown, monitoring, and recovery processes for z/OS systems and applications.
Support high availability and disaster recovery initiatives.
Integrate Systems Automation with IBM NetView, GDPS, JES2/JES3, and other IBM mainframe products.
Monitor system performance and resolve automation-related incidents.
Perform root cause analysis for system outages and automation failures.
Work closely with systems programmers, operations teams, application support, and infrastructure engineers.
Develop REXX, Pipes, or other scripting solutions to automate administrative tasks.
Participate in system upgrades, maintenance windows, and production support activities.
Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
Provide 24x7 on-call support as required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of IBM z/OS systems programming or systems administration experience.
Hands-on experience with IBM Systems Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS).
Strong knowledge of IBM NetView.
Experience with z/OS operating system administration.
Knowledge of JES2/JES3, RACF, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, SMP/E, and JCL.
Experience writing Pipes, CLIST, or automation scripts.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience migrating Broadcom''s OPS/MVS software to IBM''s Systems Automation (SA) software would be a major plus
Experience with IBM GDPS environments.
Knowledge of Parallel Sysplex.
Experience with IBM OMEGAMON or other IBM monitoring tools.
Familiarity with IBM Tivoli products.
Experience with automation policy development and customization.
Knowledge of TCP/IP, VTAM, and mainframe networking.
Experience supporting large enterprise production environments.
