Position Overview:

The Sustaining R&D Associate Chemical Engineer is involved in design, product improvement, testing and analysis utilizing a variety of chemical engineering disciplines. As a member of the Sustaining R&D team, you will verify, validate, and implement design changes to currently marketed products. This role supports cross-functional initiatives, including product development, quality, manufacturing, customer service, sales, marketing, and procurement, to enhance product performance, quality, customer satisfaction, and cost-efficiency, while ensuring compliance with internal quality systems and applicable EPA & FDA regulations in the consumable medical device and antimicrobial pesticide industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supports all initiatives related to R&D Sustaining Engineering under very general supervision.
  • Collaborate with project team members and other functional departments to assess, verify, validate and implement product design changes to currently marketed products in alignment with internal design change procedures.
  • Create and conduct design verifications, validation protocol and reports.
  • Review and evaluate design change requests to products to support changes in manufacturing processes, packaging, and labeling.
  • Provide input on Risk Management activities as per company procedures.
  • Perform product testing, evaluation, failure analysis and investigation of customer returns.
  • When required, interact with our Suppliers and factory regarding product technical issues.
  • Create and/or modify product design, specifications, drawings, procedures, CAD models (Solidworks/ AutoCAD) and Engineering Change Requests in accordance with quality system procedures.
  • Collect and provide product design feedback to engineering and production operations personnel.
  • Investigate customer complaints and field failures, develop solution and implement the solution into production in accordance with internal quality system procedures. This will require interfacing with our Customer Care Team and sometimes our customers.
  • Prepare cost estimates on proposed major design products.
  • Estimate 5% travel will be required for this position.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's in Engineering, Chemical Engineering degree is preferred
  • Relevant Engineering experience
  • Must reside within a commutable distance to Pomona, CA. This is not a remote or hybrid role.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Experience with dental devices is optional but desirable.
  • Experience with standard chemical/physical testing and/or engineering development/optimization.
  • Experience with analytical instruments (pH meter, densometer, gas chromatography, and auto-titrator) is desirable.
  • Basic understanding of root-cause analysis.
  • Performed lab duties under good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Experience in wet chemistry and liquid formulation techniques.
  • Basic understanding of FDA QMSR Part 820 and ISO 13485.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Target Market Salary Range:

Actual compensation packages take into account a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location; skill sets; relevant education and certifications; depth of experience; performance; and other business and organizational needs. At Envista, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, medical/dental/vision benefits, 401K match, and/or other applicable compensation plans.
