Lead Engineer / Senior Full-Stack Developer Location: Chateauguay, Quebec, Montreal, QC (Preferred) Remote: Exceptional candidates may work remotely from Costa Rica or Latin America Full Time
Overview We are seeking a Lead Engineer / Senior Full-Stack Developer to help drive the development and architecture of our financial technology platform. This is a hands-on leadership role, not a management-only position. The successful candidate will actively contribute to development while guiding system architecture, mentoring developers, and establishing engineering best practices. Our platform processes financial transactions and supports large-scale reporting and analytics workloads, requiring experience with scalable backend systems, distributed processing, and hybrid transactional/analytical data architectures.

Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership Mentor developers and promote engineering best practices Lead code reviews and architecture discussions Help define engineering priorities and technical roadmaps System Architecture Design and maintain scalable backend services and APIs Architect systems capable of handling high-volume financial transaction workloads Introduce technologies and patterns that improve performance and reliability Data & Distributed Systems Design architectures separating transactional (OLTP) and analytical (OLAP) workloads Guide development of reporting pipelines and analytics systems Design systems using queues, background processing, and event-driven workflows Development Write and maintain high-quality production code Develop APIs and services supporting payment workflows Contribute across both backend and frontend systems when required Engineering Process Improve development workflows, testing practices, and code quality standards Translate complex technical initiatives into clear engineering plans
Required Experience 10+ years of software development experience Strong backend experience with PHP (Laravel preferred) Strong experience with MySQL or relational databases Experience building scalable, high-throughput backend systems Experience with Vue.js or modern frontend frameworks Experience working with AWS infrastructure Experience with Redis or distributed caching systems Experience mentoring developers and leading technical initiatives Strong understanding of system architecture and scalability patterns
Highly Desired Experience Data & Analytics ClickHouse or other OLAP databases Data warehouse or analytics architecture Large-scale reporting systems Distributed Systems Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or similar message queues Event-driven system design FinTech / Payments (Bonus) Experience with systems related to: payment processing financial transactions settlement or ledger systems cross-border payments
