Job Title: Power Platform / D365 Lead (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: Henrico, VA (Onsite - limited telework may be considered after initial onsite period)
Duration: 6 Months Contract-to-Hire
Position Overview
The Power Platform / D365 Lead will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 solutions. This role includes hands-on development, environment management, governance, and mentoring internal staff while ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performing applications.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development & Delivery (60%)
Develop, test, maintain, and document Power Platform and D365 solutions
Deliver applications aligned with defined specifications and timelines
Conduct thorough testing and document results
Implement best practices for naming conventions, environment strategy, security, and lifecycle management
Ensure applications are performant, secure, and maintain data integrity
Manage deployments across environments with proper change control and rollback procedures
Produce technical documentation to support ongoing application maintenance
Mentorship & Technical Guidance (20%)
Mentor DPOR staff on Power Platform and D365 development
Provide training, consultation, and guidance on best practices, governance, and solution design
Business & Documentation Collaboration (10%)
Work with business users and IT leads to gather and document requirements
Create solution documentation including user guides, workflows, and training materials
Environment Coordination & Support (10%)
Coordinate with VITA for provisioning and administration of environments
Ensure applications operate securely and efficiently
Validate backup, recovery, and data protection processes in alignment with standards
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience with Microsoft Power Platform including:
Experience with Dynamics 365 Customer Service module
Strong knowledge of role-based security in Power Platform and D365
Experience with solution management (managed/unmanaged), environment variables, and reusable components
Working knowledge of SharePoint Online architecture and security
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for UI customizations
Experience with Agile methodologies, backlog refinement, and stakeholder communication
Knowledge of solution architecture, data modeling, performant querying, Azure Functions, and API integrations
Experience with custom components, connectors, and reusability patterns
Experience implementing accessibility standards (Section 508 / WCAG)
CI/CD experience using Power Platform Pipelines or GitHub
Experience with unit testing and test automation
Familiarity with DevOps tools
Knowledge of governance, security strategies, and environment controls (DLP, least privilege access)
Experience mentoring and training team members
Strong communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
