Role Overview

As a Fire Alarm Service Technician, you will respond to service calls, diagnose system issues, and complete service and repair work on electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products. This hands-on field role requires strong troubleshooting skills, customer communication, and the ability to deliver reliable service at the time of need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center and review the reported equipment or system malfunction.
  • Contact the customer representative to confirm the issue and assess the system problem.
  • Diagnose, service, and repair electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
  • Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and use technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to complete repairs.
  • Service, troubleshoot, and install Fire & Life Safety systems from multiple manufacturers, including SimplexGrinnell.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, software/systems, and operational product manuals.
  • Provide clear communication and excellent customer service to district staff and customers to support customer satisfaction.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding using smart phones and laptop computers.
  • Obtain customer signatures upon completion of each service call assignment.
  • Participate in scheduled on-call rotation and support training or mentoring of other service team members.
  • Provide recommendations, solutions, and quotes that help customers improve building performance and resolve service-related issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

How You Will Do It

  • Own service outcomes with accountability, safety, and integrity by working carefully, following procedures, and completing work to a high standard.
  • Stay close to the work and the customer by listening carefully, confirming issues early, and delivering practical solutions on site.
  • Use technical resources effectively by organizing information, parts, tools, and support to keep work moving efficiently.
  • Improve every day through candor and problem-solving by troubleshooting thoroughly, documenting clearly, and sharing knowledge with the team.
  • Win as one team by communicating well with district staff, customers, and fellow technicians, and by supporting mentoring when needed.
  • Perform panel repair and reprogramming, device replacement or repair, low-voltage circuit troubleshooting, and system testing as part of routine service work.
  • Program fire alarm, security, and access control system panels as required for the assignment.
  • Complete all required task-related, activity, productivity, and documentation updates in a timely manner.
  • Support customers after hours or on call when needed, and provide recommendations and quotes that help facilities operate efficiently.
  • Use knowledge of CCTV and IT/IP networks where applicable to support integrated building systems.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
  • Knowledge of test equipment, including a multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Ability to carry and move equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Ability to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, and working within ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability to adhere to and always follow safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Valid driver?s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Ability to retain any licenses required by National, State, and Local codes.
  • Ability to maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs.

Nice to Have

  • NICET Level II certification.
  • Experience with CCTV and IT/IP networks.
