About the Opportunity
Our client, Caterpillar, is seeking an Autonomous Systems Integration Engineer to support the development of next-generation autonomous haulage solutions used in mining operations worldwide. This role is focused on robotics, autonomy, hardware integration, system-level testing, and requirements development, rather than software programming.
You will work with a highly collaborative engineering team responsible for the onboard autonomy systems that enable Caterpillar's autonomous mining vehicles. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge autonomous technology while gaining exposure to vehicle-level system design, validation, and integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the integration of autonomous vehicle systems and hardware components.
- Contribute to onboard system design decisions for autonomous haulage machines.
- Analyze system requirements and assist with requirements decomposition and solution development.
- Spend approximately 20% of your time working with system requirements and hardware-related documentation.
- Evaluate potential technical solutions and perform tradeoff analysis.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-level hardware and integration issues.
- Coordinate with hardware, software, validation, and platform teams to ensure successful implementation and testing.
- Support validation activities and system-level testing of autonomous vehicle hardware.
- Document designs, integration strategies, and technical decisions.
- Assist in coordinating hardware availability and delivery across multiple engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related technical field.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience (internships may be considered).
- Strong familiarity with robotics and autonomous systems.
- Experience implementing, integrating, and troubleshooting hardware and electronic systems.
- Understanding of engineering development processes.
- Experience with requirements decomposition and solution development.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and global engineering teams.
