A Senior Data Center Operator is an experienced operator that monitors critical production systems, applications, and infrastructure components. They help ensure continued operations by 1st level troubleshooting, sending alert notifications to on-call systems administrators and providing remote hands to help restore operations. Monitoring and management of scheduled jobs (including backups) are done per documented procedures. Physical security of servers and devices are maintained by ensuring only authorized individuals are granted access to the data center, appropriate racks and servers. • Responsible for monitoring production servers, applications and infrastructure components by use of performance monitoring and availability tools. • Responsible for monitoring and management of scheduled jobs based on pre-defined job runbooks (documentation) as needed. This jobs include, but are not limited to, data backups, PeopleSoft jobs, NWRDC mainframe jobs and print server jobs. • Responsible for monitoring data center environmental (heat, humidity, water), power (generator & UPS systems) & fire suppression systems (FM 200 & smoke detectors) to make sure the data center environment stays within defined parameters. • Provide remote hands support for systems administrators. • Assist Lead Data Center Operator with management of monitoring tools, which may include configuration of new systems to monitor, or changes to the way systems are monitored. • Assist with 1st level troubleshooting, by gathering required technical information and testing the appropriate system or application. • Assist with rack mounting of servers and devices as needed. • Responsible for security of data center, by providing escorted access only to authorized individuals, which will be checked against an allowed entry list. Valid government ID is required to gain access. • May need to provide support for end user service requests. • Contact on-call support staff whenever a problem with a production service is detected. Ensures appropriate alert notifications are sent to internal lists and to public lists when required by procedures. • Help train more junior staff. • Create and maintain documentation for aspects of the job as needed. |
