Design, implement, maintain, and improve Navy Federal mainframe systems. Configure and troubleshoot unique operating systems and obsolete tools. Ensure the smooth operation of our systems and develop new features and functionality to support business needs. Responsibilities - Lead the design and implementation of complex mainframe solutions, and maintain mainframe applications - TPHOST programs.
- Establish the technical direction of mainframe development and architecture, aligning with organizational goals.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot problems.
- Configure, perform analysis and maintain mainframe hardware and software to optimize system performance and availability.
- Use obsolete tools and languages to address challenges and optimize system performance.
- Document and update system procedures and provide support and training to end users.
- Develop and test new software and system updates.
- Research and make recommendations of emerging technologies to enhance mainframe capabilities.
- Assist with the development and enhancement of practices, procedures, and instructions
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with team members, subject matter experts, and leaders; work with senior management on complex issues
- Lead medium to large projects and initiatives
- Act as a technical advisor and mentor/train junior engineers and interns as needed.
Qualifications - Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mainframe engineering and application development.
- Subject matter expert within business area/specialization with understanding of interrelationships of different disciplines.
- Subject matter expert in Fidelity Information Systems (FIS) and Systematics Core banking application (GN, RM, ST, IMPACS, ALS, etc).
- Experience using Changeman.
- Comprehensive understanding of data dictionaries, copybooks, and parms.
- Advanced knowledge of mainframe systems, unique operating systems, and obsolete programming tools and languages.
- Advanced knowledge with mainframe systems, Assembler, COBOL, JCL, and databases such as DB2.
- Advanced knowledge of z/OS system software, subsystems, and utilities.
- Significant experience in delivering large-scale mainframe projects.
- Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills.
