Vaco is growing our BI and Analytics team and is seeking an experienced Senior Analytics Engineer to join our consulting practice focused on delivering modern, cloud-based analytics solutions for our clients.
This role combines hands-on data analytics creation with solution architecture, client advisory, and delivery leadership.  
 

Candidates should be local to Cincinnati and comfortable with in-person meetings and on-site work.


Key Responsibilities 
  • Solution Design & Delivery 
  • Design, build, and deploy modern analytics and reporting solutions using contemporary tooling including Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Databricks AI/BI, etc. 
  • Navigate modern data platform environments to query, extract, and build analytic products in a reproduceable manner.  
  • Deep understanding in designing and deploying an enterprise-wide analytics/reporting architecture using contemporary tooling.  
  • Deep understanding in deploying security models, working with catalog/governance tooling, and RLS. 
  • Strong SQL skills 
  • Knowledge of Python/pyspark a plus  
  • Client Engagement & Consulting 
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, translating business goals into analytic solutions. 
  • Lead data assessments, roadmap development, and modernization initiatives. 
  • Partner with business stakeholders, analysts, and data scientists to enable analytics, AI, and reporting use cases. 
  • Provide hands-on mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and client teams. 
  • Engineering Excellence 
  • Establish best practices for DataOps, CI/CD, and data quality assurance across environments. 
  • Implement observability, lineage, and governance frameworks (e.g., Unity Catalog, Purview, Alation). 
  • Understand data modeling principles (Kimball, Data Vault, or Lakehouse paradigms) to be able to build analytic solutions from these models. 
Required 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field. 
  • 10+ years of experience in analytics engineering, BI development, and data architecture. 
  • Proven experience with report migrations and modernization initiatives. 
  • Experience with modern data platforms (Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, BigQuery, etc.). 
  • Advanced skills in Python, Power BI (Power Query, DAX, dataflows, semantic models) and SQL. 
  • Experience designing and implementing semantic layers or data marts for analytics consumption. 
  • Strong understanding of data modeling (star schema, dimensional modeling) and performance tuning for large datasets. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills. 
Preferred 
  • Prior consulting experience 
  • Familiarity with version control (Git), CI/CD for BI assets, and data governance tools. 
  • Experience mentoring junior analysts or delivering Power BI user training. 
  • Exposure to enterprise-scale reporting modernization programs or analytics center-of-excellence initiatives. 
Certifications (Preferred) 
  • Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer 
  • Databricks Certified Data Analyst 
  • Snowflake SnowPro Advanced Data Analyst 
  • Tableau Certified Data Analyst/Consultant
