Technical Product Owner

job summary:

Our West Michigan Client has a long term contract role open for a Technical Product Owner. This is a remote role with occasional visits to the client site in West Michigan.

responsibilities:

• Own the backlog and the roadmap
• Diagnose production, not just describe it
• Own release readiness and the release decision
• Manage the integration and vendor surface
• Raise the platform's engineering leverage

qualifications:

6+ years in product ownership, technical program management, or engineering on a large-scale transactional commerce platform, with 3+ years owning a platform or domain end to end.

Hands-on SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris) experience

Technical fluency. You can read Java and Spring configuration, reason about a SQL execution plan, interpret a distributed trace, and tell a cache problem from a locking problem from a capacity problem.

Production incident ownership

Data-driven prioritization. Comfort querying logs and telemetry yourself to size a problem before committing engineering capacity to it.

Azure DevOps

Preferred Qualifications

Grocery, retail, or omnichannel commerce domain experience

Order management and fulfillment integration experience

Knowledge of Kafka event-driven integration

Observability practice

Major platform upgrade or migration experience

AI-assisted engineering workflows - agent instructions, MCP tooling, skill authoring - and the judgment to know where determinism must replace inference.
