OverviewApex Systems is seeking an experienced
Designer 4 to support a Mechanical Engineering Design team within a leading launch vehicle program. This role involves drawing/model checking, design verification, and advanced CAD modeling using Siemens NX and Teamcenter. The Designer 4 will ensure compliance with ASME and industry standards while collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities- Review mechanical design and drawing packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable industry and military standards.
- Check designs for fit, function, manufacturability, and cost-effective fabrication.
- Evaluate tolerance analyses, hardware selection, and assembly-level fitment.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert in GD&T, resolving drawing interpretation issues.
- Verify 3D models released to manufacturing using Siemens NX managed in Teamcenter.
- Collaborate closely with engineering disciplines, Manufacturing, Quality, and vendors as needed.
- Model fully defined components and assemblies using NX and maintain parametric relationships.
- Create and revise ASME-compliant drawings per 3D modeling and drawing standards.
- Supervise or direct drafting staff when requested.
- Perform related duties as assigned, maintaining timely and accurate work under schedule pressure.
- Utilize software including NX, Teamcenter, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows-based tools.
Basic Qualifications- 2-year Technical Degree in Drafting or Engineering and 6+ years of directly related experience.
- Strong experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009
- (GDTP Professional Certification preferred).
- Experience with Digital Product Definition per ASME Y14.41.
- U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
- Knowledge of standard manufacturing processes, including CNC mill and lathe operations.
- Proficient with Siemens NX and Teamcenter for modeling and design management.
- Ability to work both independently and in team settings.
- Comfortable working extended periods at a workstation.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with weld design per AWS D17.1 and AWS D1.1
- (AWS CWI Certification preferred).
- Experience supporting DoD programs.
- Working knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and MIL-STD-100.
