AI Engineer

Role Summary

The AI Engineer will design, develop, and operationalize responsible artificial intelligence solutions supporting the modernization of complex tax processing systems. This role focuses on prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), large language models, generative AI applications, and machine learning model optimization. The AI Engineer will collaborate with technical teams, leadership, and stakeholders to deliver scalable AI applications using Python, cloud services, and open-source frameworks. This position also promotes strong software engineering practices, responsible AI standards, and clear communication of technical findings.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of prompt engineering strategies.
• Design, implement, and evaluate Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) frameworks.
• Develop and operationalize AI applications using Python, Azure OpenAI, AWS, and open-source frameworks.
• Select, build, fine-tune, and optimize machine learning and language models.
• Establish evaluation processes for large language models using industry benchmarks and custom performance metrics.
• Implement AI guardrails and responsible AI practices aligned with ethical, performance, and business objectives.
• Apply software engineering practices, including Git-based version control, experiment tracking, unit testing, integration testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Use Docker, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure-as-code practices to support scalable ML deployments.
• Lead AI project delivery, provide technical implementation support, and contribute to strategic roadmaps.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience supporting complex AI, machine learning, or software engineering initiatives.
• Relevant education, training, certifications, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on experience with Azure OpenAI and AWS cloud services, including AWS GovCloud.
• Proficiency in Python AI application development; experience with Java is beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of RAG frameworks, prompt engineering, large language models, and generative AI.
• Experience with machine learning model optimization and advanced natural language processing techniques.
• Experience managing cloud infrastructure and applying containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong project management, Agile delivery, and technical leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to client stakeholders at all organizational and technical levels.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and possess an active IRS MBI clearance with current GFE.

Publishing Pay Range: $65.00 - $68.00 hourly

This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
