Mid-level Cloud and Container Engineer Contractor Description
The Cloud Engineer will support a team of experienced engineers responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and operating AWS and Kubernetes application workloads. The candidate will translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable cloud architectures, containerized workloads, and automated delivery patterns using modern cloud technologies and best practices.

The candidate will have the following primary job responsibilities:



  • Operations and Maintenance - Provide ongoing operational support and maintenance for cloud and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) workloads, with a focus on supporting development teams. Ensure cloud platforms and workloads remain reliable, available, and performant in accordance with established SLAs.

  • Cloud Enablement - Support application teams in adopting and effectively using AWS services by providing practical guidance, reusable patterns, automation, and documentation. Partner with teams during planning, design, implementation, and troubleshooting to reduce friction, align solutions with enterprise guardrails, and accelerate secure, reliable cloud delivery.

  • Architecture and Design - Work with IT stakeholders on high-level solution designs for enhancements to existing products, ensuring alignment with IT strategic direction, standards, and policies. Establish architectures and solution designs using appropriate technologies, industry practices, and organizational standards. Participate throughout the SDLC, including analysis, decision-making, technology selection, system integration, development, testing, and deployment.

  • Governance, Standards and Policies - Contribute to defining, maintaining, and enforcing architectural and technology standards and principles that drive consistency and efficiency across the organization. Collaborate with the Cloud Architecture and Enablement team to maintain these standards and policies, and ensure they are reviewed regularly for relevance and accuracy.

  • Technology Evaluation - Participate in identifying and researching emerging technologies that may benefit the organization. Create documentation assessing the potential benefits, risks, and costs of implementation, and present recommendations and findings to the Cloud Architecture and Enablement team and other IT stakeholders, as appropriate.

  • Documentation and Knowledge Management - The candidate will create, maintain, and disseminate documentation of the organization's technology, governance, policies, and standards.

  • Technology Roadmaps - Collaborate with IT stakeholders to assess the current technology landscape and develop future-state roadmaps aligned with strategic objectives and emerging technologies. These roadmaps should improve organizational agility, maintainability, and operational efficiency.



The candidate will have the following skills:



  • Knowledge and practical experience with the following technologies and frameworks:


    • Kubernetes, Amazon EKS (preferred), Docker, Helm Charts, and ArgoCD

    • Software Development - C#/.NET, Python, Typescript/Javascript/Node

    • Infrastructure automation - CloudFormation/CDK, Powershell/Bash

    • Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CICD) - TeamCity, GitHub Actions, Jenkins

    • Observability platforms and logging solutions - Elastic, CloudWatch, or similar

    • Deep knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native design patterns used to build secure, scalable, and high-performing applications.


  • Hands-on experience modernizing on-premises applications with a focus on AWS managed services. Experience applying AWS knowledge to redesign software applications and processes to employ native AWS services.

  • Experience and understanding of continuous integration, automated testing and deployment frameworks, platforms, and practices. Hands-on experience with DevSecOps practices and technologies in the design, development, and implementation phases of product lifecycles.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and explain complex technical concepts. This includes possessing excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to collaborate with a wide range of staff including developers, analysts, product owners, as well as IT and business stakeholders.

  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills to align technology solutions with business objectives in a pragmatic manner. This includes having strong problem-solving skills to address complex technology challenges and possessing the ability to make informed decisions.



The candidate will have the following education, training, and experience:



  • Minimum 8 years of overall IT related experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in building, deploying, and managing solutions built in AWS

  • At least 1 year of experience developing, deploying, managing workloads on Kubernetes environments (K8s, EKS, AKS, GKe)

  • Degree in computer science or a related field of study.

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (required)

  • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (preferred)

  • AWS Certified Developer (preferred),

  • Prior experience working in highly regulated environments such as insurance and financial services, healthcare, Federal Government, and/or association and membership systems preferred.
