Team Red Dog is hiring an
AI Software Engineer - Industrial Automation & Machine Learning for our client, a next-generation cloud platform company and AI-driven technology organization. This fully remote opportunity combines modern C#/.NET software engineering, applied machine learning, cloud telemetry, and automation to transform industrial controls data into scalable cloud-based solutions that power predictive analytics and operational intelligence. You'll build production-ready automation tools, develop AI-powered classification models, and modernize legacy processes while working across Azure IoT, Event Hub, Kusto, and cloud technologies that support this Fortune 50 company's global datacenter infrastructure. This is an outstanding opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex data engineering challenges while helping shape the future of AI-enabled industrial automation.
Top Required Skills (Must Haves):- C#/.NET Software Development (5+ years): Build and maintain production-ready automation tools, including console applications and Worker Services, that transform industrial control system templates into configuration files and telemetry outputs using the Microsoft .NET ecosystem.
- Applied Machine Learning & AI (3+ years): Develop and refine classification models using ML.NET, scikit-learn, embeddings, or similar technologies to automate telemetry tag mapping, improve prediction accuracy, and reduce manual engineering effort.
- Azure Telemetry & Data Engineering (3+ years): Work with Azure IoT, Event Hub, Azure Data Explorer (Kusto/KQL), and cloud-based telemetry pipelines to validate, process, and optimize industrial controls data for downstream automation and analytics.
- Software Engineering Lifecycle: Own projects from requirements gathering through development, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support while improving existing systems and mentoring teammates.
Opportunity Overview:Join a highly collaborative engineering team responsible for modernizing industrial controls and telemetry systems that support one of the world's largest cloud infrastructures. This role offers the opportunity to solve real-world AI and automation challenges by combining software engineering with applied machine learning to dramatically reduce manual engineering effort. You'll work on highly visible initiatives that improve operational efficiency, accelerate telemetry onboarding, and help define the team's future AI strategy through modern tooling and intelligent automation.
How you will make an impact:- Design, develop, test, and maintain C#/.NET automation tools supporting industrial controls and telemetry onboarding.
- Build and enhance console applications and Worker Services that generate configuration files and telemetry outputs.
- Develop and improve machine learning models that automate telemetry tag-to-template mapping using historical data.
- Prototype AI and ML solutions in Python before production implementation within the C#/.NET environment.
- Validate telemetry data using Azure IoT, Event Hub, Azure Data Explorer (Kusto/KQL), and related cloud services.
- Improve legacy systems by identifying automation opportunities and streamlining manual engineering processes.
- Own the complete software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, development, testing, deployment, documentation, and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with partner engineering teams to deliver scalable cloud-based telemetry solutions.
- Contribute to AI-enablement initiatives, including Copilot and agent-based development patterns.
- Mentor teammates and create documentation that promotes maintainable, production-ready software.
The expertise you bring:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5-7 years of professional software engineering experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on C#/.NET development experience, including modern .NET frameworks and Visual Studio.
- Experience building production applications such as console applications, services, or backend automation tools.
- 3+ years of applied machine learning experience using ML.NET, scikit-learn, embeddings, or similar technologies.
- Experience building classification models, feature engineering, and evaluating model accuracy.
- Experience working with Azure IoT, Event Hub, Azure Data Explorer (Kusto/KQL), or similar telemetry and cloud data platforms.
- Working knowledge of Python for AI/ML prototyping.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies, testing, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and mentor others.
- Active U.S. passport and ability to complete citizenship and cloud attestation requirements.
What makes a candidate highly successful in this role:Successful candidates combine strong software engineering fundamentals with practical AI and machine learning experience, using automation to solve complex operational problems rather than building research prototypes. They have experience working with industrial controls, telemetry, or data-intensive cloud systems and are comfortable challenging existing processes to improve efficiency. They demonstrate ownership throughout the entire development lifecycle, produce clean, maintainable production code, communicate effectively across technical teams, and thrive in environments where innovation, continuous improvement, and independent problem solving are highly valued.
