Description

SAIC is hiring a Senior Database Administrator to join our Air Force A1 team reporting to the Infrastructure Operations Manager. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day hands-on database management and support to meet all technical, schedule, and SLA requirements within the program. This position will provide enterprise responsibility and operations for all database activities including the design, build, testing, configuration, implementation, administration, documentation, coordination, control, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, usage monitoring and the development of specialized procedures for the program databases both onsite, and in our IL5 Cloud instance for the Windows/Linux systems. The Senior Database Administrator will provide system engineering and operational support for system critical databases as required by the EITaaS Application owners, onsite and in the EITaaS IL5 Cloud environment to include capacity planning, tuning, system monitoring, system performance and problem resolution across all aspects of the infrastructure.

This position is 100% remote work.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage SQL Server databases in the cloud and in the AFNET IL4-5.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes.
  • Configure and support Cloud based enterprise SQL services as required.
  • Monitor system's health and performance.
  • Provide direct database support in the day-to-day operations, including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time, and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems with databases.
  • Ensure high levels of performance, availability, scalability and security of our customer-facing applications.
  • Ensure developers are properly using best practices for database performance, scalability and security.
  • Analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time and provide suggestions for solutions.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Assist developers with architectural considerations, query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide 247 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours as necessary.
  • Provide support to the A1 Applications teams with SQL activities.
  • Supervise, coordinate and/or perform additions and changes to program SQL/database infrastructure.


Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelors in Computer Science, MIS, or other related degree preferred with minimum of 8 years of progressive - or - equivalent work experience. Masters degree and a minimum of 6 years work experience.
  • Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • IT infrastructure database management and support.
  • Familiarity with the US DoW requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional presentation skills with experience briefing senior military officials.
  • Ability to convey technical information to non-technical individuals.
  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency with demonstrated experience working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Documented experience with servers (Linux and Windows), networking, virtualization, and hyper-converged infrastructure (Nutanix experience a plus) in a distributed architecture environment with cloud, SaaS, and web-based applications.
  • Familiarity with Database Cybersecurity: NIST RMF, FISMA, FedRAMP, C&A/A&A, STIGs.
  • Experience with patching SQL applications based on the direction of the application owners, and automation tools.
  • Experience with cloud implementations, preferably Azure and AWS.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into technical requirements and executable plans.
  • Willing to assist and support the team with evolving requirements and objectives.
  • Excellent analytic and communication skills to help build and document processes, policies, and guides.
  • Customer service driven, results oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server DBA, Performance Tuning and Optimization, Backups, Restores and Recovery Models
    Windows Servers including Active Directory
  • 5 years of experience with: SQL Server High Availability (HA), SQL Server Disaster Recovery (DR), Performance Tuning and Optimization Backups, Restores and Recovery Models.
  • 3 years of experience: Managing databases in Amazon AWS, Linux MySQL Databases, NoSQL (Cassandra, MongoDB etc...).
  • Understanding of: Python, C#, PowerShell (other languages could be a plus), Data access through ORMs (Entity Framework), Migrations for database schema updates.


Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
