Job Title: SAP Datasphere Lead / Data Architect
Location: Remote / Travel Required
Duration: 5 Months
Position Overview
We are looking for a senior-level data expert to design, model, and implement enterprise-level data architectures using SAP Datasphere. In this client-facing leadership role, you will be at the forefront of building the Business Data Fabric, connecting mission-critical SAP data with non-SAP sources to deliver trusted, business-ready information. You will lead teams in creating semantic data models, orchestrating complex integrations, and empowering analytics with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC). You will act as the trusted advisor to clients, guiding them through their journey to a modern, cloud-based data landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Data Strategy
Lead discovery workshops with business and IT stakeholders to define data requirements, analytics use cases, and a strategic roadmap for implementing SAP Datasphere.
Architect end-to-end enterprise data models, defining the Business Data Fabric that connects SAP S/4HANA, BW/4HANA, and non-SAP sources (SQL, cloud applications, data lakes) into a cohesive, governed semantic layer.
Define data integration strategies, leveraging replication flows, real-time replication, and data provisioning technologies (ODP, SDI, CDS Views) to ensure timely and reliable data access.
Establish data governance, security, and compliance frameworks within SAP Datasphere, including data access controls, data lineage, and lifecycle management.
Technical Leadership & Delivery
Lead full-lifecycle implementations of SAP Datasphere, from initial setup and source system connections to model deployment and operational handover.
Manage and mentor a team of data engineers and modelers, ensuring adherence to best practices, performance optimization, and high-quality deliverables.
Oversee the creation of complex data models using Data Builder (tables, views, replication flows) and Business Builder (semantic models, dimensions, facts, consumption models) to deliver business-ready data assets.
Optimize data models for performance and scalability, ensuring efficient query processing and consumption by reporting tools.
Provide technical guidance on integrating SAP Datasphere with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) for enterprise reporting, dashboards, and planning applications.
Technical Expertise & Innovation
Architect data flows that combine SAP data (S/4HANA extractors, CDS Views, BW objects) with external data sources using cloud connectors and reverse proxy.
Utilize SQL and data modeling best practices to transform raw data into actionable insights.
Identify opportunities to leverage SAP Datasphere's advanced capabilities, such as data federation, data virtualization, and integration with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) services for advanced analytics and AI.
Support business development efforts, including solutioning for proposals, estimating efforts, and presenting to potential clients.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Experience: 8-12+ years of experience in data management, data warehousing, or business intelligence, with a minimum of 3+ years dedicated to SAP Datasphere (or SAP Data Warehouse Cloud).
Project Track Record: Proven history of delivering 2+ full-lifecycle SAP Datasphere implementations, from requirements gathering to go-live.
Technical Expertise:
Deep proficiency in SAP Datasphere components: Space management, Data Builder, Business Builder, task chains, and replication flows.
Strong knowledge of SQL and data modeling concepts (dimensional modeling, star schemas, CUBE, FACT, and dimension tables).
Experience connecting to and integrating data from SAP sources (S/4HANA, BW/4HANA, ECC) using ODP, SLT, SDI, and CDS Views.
Experience connecting to and integrating data from non-SAP sources (relational databases, cloud applications, flat files).
Strong understanding of SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) integration, including live and import data connections.
Data Governance: Understanding of data security principles, data masking, row/column-level security, and data privacy regulations.
Professional Attributes
Consulting Acumen: Proven ability to manage client expectations, facilitate workshops with data stewards and business users, and translate technical complexity into business value.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot data integration issues, optimize model performance, and resolve data quality challenges.
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting architectural decisions to C-level executives and explaining data models to business analysts.
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead by example, mentor junior team members, and drive complex engagements in a fast-paced consulting environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Informatics, or related field (Master's preferred).
SAP Certifications in SAP Datasphere or SAP Analytics Cloud.
Experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) services.
Familiarity with data lake technologies, big data platforms, or other cloud data warehouses (AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Google BigQuery).
Experience in specific industries such as Consumer Products, Retail, Industrial Manufacturing, or Financial Services.
