IT Managed Services Client Senior Cloud Migration Architect
Our client is seeking two Senior Migration Architects to support a large-scale cloud migration initiative. This program has been in planning and discovery for over two years and is now entering the execution phase. Each architect will be responsible for leading migration strategy and architecture for a portion of the application portfolio. The engagement is expected to run approximately one year, with an anticipated start in mid-April.
The ideal candidate will have experience leading enterprise migration programs within large Fortune 500 environments, particularly in highly regulated industries such as healthcare, insurance, government, Medicaid/Medicare, or other secure environments. Candidates located in or near Chicago or Wisconsin are strongly preferred.
The Senior Migration Architect will work closely with Solution Architects and client stakeholders to define migration architecture and strategy aligned to business requirements. This role requires strong consulting, planning, and technical leadership skills to ensure successful migration execution while maintaining security, availability, and performance of critical systems.
Position Responsibilities
· Define and deliver application portfolio assessments including discovery analysis, dependency mapping, migration grouping, and prioritization of workloads.
· Develop migration strategies and architecture aligned with client business requirements, performance needs, and technical constraints.
· Work closely with Solution Architects and program leadership to design migration approaches for enterprise application portfolios.
· Analyze business, technical, and application requirements to determine migration readiness, identify risks, and evaluate cost and operational impacts.
· Provide architecture guidance for migration of complex enterprise workloads to public and private cloud environments including Microsoft Azure and AWS.
· Define migration sequencing, wave planning, and technical specifications required for migration execution.
· Produce migration strategy documentation and architecture artifacts that enable delivery teams to execute migrations effectively.
· Document architecture decisions, risks, mitigation strategies, and alternative approaches.
· Provide hands-on architectural guidance during migration execution as needed.
· Evaluate emerging tools, automation approaches, and AI-enabled productivity tools that can improve migration planning and analysis (including tools such as Microsoft Copilot for data analysis, documentation, and planning support).
· Collaborate with client stakeholders to ensure migration architecture aligns with enterprise security, compliance, and operational standards.
· Mentor and guide junior architects and technical consultants on migration best practices and architecture standards.
· Support large-scale transformation initiatives and contribute to overall program success.
· Communicate architectural decisions, standards, and rationale clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Experience
· Minimum 5+ years of experience in a Migration Architect, Cloud Architect, or similar enterprise architecture role.
· 10+ years of overall experience in Information Technology with strong experience in application architecture and cloud platforms.
· Experience leading or supporting large-scale application migration initiatives within Fortune 500 environments.
· Experience working within regulated industries such as healthcare, insurance, government, Medicaid/Medicare, or other high-security environments is strongly preferred.
· Hands-on experience with cloud migration planning and architecture across platforms such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.
· Strong understanding of application dependency mapping, migration planning, and enterprise application architecture.
· Experience working within enterprise transformation programs involving large application portfolios.
· Familiarity with modern productivity tools, including AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Copilot, for data analysis, documentation, and planning activities is a plus.
· Strong communication and consulting skills with the ability to work directly with enterprise clients.
· Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
