IT Support Specialist (Server Admin)

Title: IT Security Specialist (Systems Administrator ? Security)

Location: Pontiac, MI (Hybrid ? 2days on-site)

We are seeking an experienced IT Security Specialist to administer, secure, maintain, and optimize our client's enterprise infrastructure across on-premises, virtualized, hybrid, and cloud environments. This role focuses on vulnerability management, remediation, patch compliance, infrastructure hardening, and security operations across Windows, Linux, VMware, and cloud platforms.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of relevant experience, strong troubleshooting and automation skills, and hands-on experience with endpoint management, vulnerability assessment, and patching tools. Experience with Tanium or a similar platform is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Security: Administer Windows, Linux, VMware, and cloud infrastructure, and implement security baselines, access controls, and hardening standards.

Vulnerability Management: Identify, prioritize, track, and remediate vulnerabilities across servers, virtual machines, and cloud resources. Validate fixes and coordinate remediation timelines.

Patching: Coordinate operating system and infrastructure patching, validate deployments, maintain compliance, and minimize business disruptions.

Security and Compliance: Assess configurations against security standards, address weaknesses, and support audits and compliance reporting.

Cloud and Virtualization: Secure and maintain VMware environments, virtual machines, and cloud services, including configurations and access controls across hybrid environments.

Security Tools: Support asset discovery, endpoint management, vulnerability assessment, patching, and remediation with Tanium or similar platforms.

Automation: Develop PowerShell, Bash, or Python scripts and workflows to automate patching, remediation, security validation, and reporting.

Troubleshooting: Resolve infrastructure, configuration, patching, and security issues, and maintain incident and change records in the IT service management system.

Documentation and Collaboration: Document configurations, security standards, patching processes, and remediation procedures, and collaborate across technical teams.

Requirements

• At least 5+ years of relevant experience in systems administration, infrastructure security, or IT security.
  
• Hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting Windows Server and Linux, including access management, storage, networking, identity, and endpoint systems.
  
• Experience with vulnerability scanning, remediation tracking, patch management, risk prioritization, and configuration compliance.
  
• Experience securing and supporting VMware vSphere, virtual machines, and cloud platforms.
  
• Proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation.
  
• Experience with endpoint management, asset discovery, and vulnerability management platforms such as Tanium or equivalent tools.
  
• Knowledge of incident and change management, technical documentation, reporting, and cross-team collaboration.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Tanium.
  
• Experience with Ansible and Terraform.
  
• Experience supporting security audits and compliance initiatives in a hybrid enterprise environment.
  
  

Work Environment

This position operates in a hybrid enterprise environment spanning on-premises, virtualized, and cloud infrastructure. The role works closely with technical and business teams to strengthen security, improve patch and configuration compliance, and reduce infrastructure risk.
