Our client, a rapidly scaling SaaS industry pioneer, is seeking an innovative Head of Engineering, Finance Systems to spearhead the strategic development of their finance technology infrastructure. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape the backbone of financial operations at a company at a remarkable inflection point. You'll lead a talented team, collaborate closely with senior finance and technology leaders, and drive cutting-edge automation, AI integration, and system optimization-ensuring seamless financial workflows and compliance in a dynamic, public SaaS environment.
Compensation:
$184,000 - $276,000 annually
With a 20% performance bonus and vested options, commensurate with experience and leadership level.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the multi-year vision and roadmap for finance application infrastructure, including ERP, procure-to-pay, revenue systems, and financial reporting platforms.
  • Spearhead the creation and execution of automation and AI-driven projects, embedding innovation into core financial workflows.
  • Manage and expand a high-performing team of application owners, business systems analysts, and integration specialists to achieve key business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with finance and GTS leaders to design and optimize end-to-end processes-ensuring systems are configured for accuracy, scalability, and compliance.
  • Oversee the design and operation of IT General Controls (ITGCs), ensuring audit readiness and robust SOX compliance across all finance systems.
  • Own the vendor management portfolio, including budget, contracts, and ROI analysis to drive strategic technology investments.
  • Act as a trusted partner and strategic advisor to executive leadership, translating business objectives into scalable technology solutions and influencing company-wide initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to automate controls, streamline audit processes, and improve system reliability, reducing audit friction and compliance risks.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Security, or a related field; Master's preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in enterprise or business systems, with a deep ownership of finance technology at SaaS or tech companies.
  • 4+ years of leadership experience supervising teams of managers and technical staff responsible for order-to-cash, record-to-report, procure-to-pay, and financial close systems.
  • Extensive hands-on expertise with ERP and finance systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, Coupa, Avalara, Zip, Zuora, and similar platforms, including integrations.
  • Proven success in leading transformations involving ERP, billing, automation, and AI implementations in a high-growth environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SOX ITframeworks, internal/external audit processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Fluency in both developer and business language to translate strategic goals into technical initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence across cross-functional teams and executive leadership.
  • Willingness to sit in Boston and relocate if necessary.
