Job Summary

Responsible for provisioning, deploying, administering, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, upgrading, and patching of Information Technology resources and services. Document processes, procedures, system configurations and specifications. Exhibits solid analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with the capability to learn and retain new technical competencies.

Ability to work effectively alone and in team environments. Responds effectively in a timely, professional manner in a variety of situations. Able to prioritize multiple tasks and complete them efficiently. Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior in working with confidential and university information. Understanding different work styles, conflict resolution techniques, office etiquette and demonstrates the ability to interact with employees and stakeholders in a positive, productive manner. Self-motivated and stays abreast of applicable new technologies and technical methodologies to advance productivity and career path.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience with systems administration of Windows or Linux servers
  • Comfortable with Linux/Unix systems, particularly RHEL
  • Basic understanding of networks
  • Some scripting experience
  • Follows procedures
  • Experience with ticketing system
  • Solid communication skills
  • Works well with supervision
  • Knowledge of authentication and identity technologies, including PAM, Kerberos, SSSD, IPA, and secure SSH configuration.
  • Knowledge of system provisioning internals, including TFTP, PXE, GRUB, DHCP, and their interactions.
  • Knowledge with container platforms and modern application hosting architectures.
  • Knowledge with load-balanced and highly available architecture and modern content delivery including relevant web protocols such as HTTP and SSL/TLS.
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code, automation, and configuration management principles.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross functional team.
  • Knowledge of Linux system administration and enterprise platform operations.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to departmental and end users
  • Process and complete requests for access and resource creation and modification
  • Assist with installation, configuration, application of security patches and upgrades
  • Assist with installation, configuration, updating, performance monitoring and troubleshooting of application servers
  • Assist the Manager/Team lead in developing, implementing, and maintaining standard operational procedures and established standards
  • Development and maintenance of scripts written in a variety of languages such as shell, Perl, Ruby, PHP, Java, PowerShell or YAML
  • Create, modify, and update technical and process documentation
  • Involved in the evaluation and testing of new technology solutions and the documentation of findings
  • Document basic processes, procedures, system configurations and specifications
  • On-call availability for resolving system emergencies, both during regular and off-hours
