Summary

You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Mechanical) in the Auxiliary Systems (TRF-322) Shop 38A, Mechanical Division (TRF-320), Repair Department (TRF-300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

Help

• You will monitor tasks involving standard trouble shooting and assessments assigned to junior personnel and evaluate the subsequent progress and final recommendations for technical accuracy.
• You will determine diagnostic and operability tests in assigned functional areas.
• You will define requirements and alternatives for specialized test instrumentation intended to augment onboard ship and shop capabilities.
• You will develop test plans and procedures to be accomplished under severe time constraints.
• You will resolve complex problems with submarine propulsion while in a stressful environment and under constant pressure for rapid results.
• You will utilize requisite knowledge of equipment/system design features, operational procedures, and performance specifications to complete required tasks.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position must be able to maintain an IT II designation.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of SPECIALIZED experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Submarine Propulsion Maintenance: Hands-on experience troubleshooting, overhauling, and repairing submarine main propulsion shafting, steam systems, and seawater components.
• Rapid Diagnostics & Testing: Experience analyzing material deficiencies and executing diagnostic test plans under tight operational timelines, such as active submarine refit periods.
• Design & Lifecycle Input: Experience utilizing OHIO Class maintenance history to provide design and configuration recommendations for new submarine classes (e.g., COLUMBIA Class).
• Technical Guidance & Training: Experience drafting formal technical reports, developing I-level repair procedures, and providing On-the-Job Training (OJT) to junior technicians.
• Afloat & Remote Operations: Experience performing mechanical inspections onboard submarines (including INSURV and TSRA) and executing repairs during forward-deployed operation

Specialized Experience

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

• Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
• Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

Certification:

Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
