About the Role
On behalf of our client, a leading national retail and e-commerce enterprise, we are seeking a skilled Kotlin Backend Engineer to join a high-impact Finance technology team. This team supports the organization''s Inventory Valuation and Gross Margin functions, building and maintaining applications that ensure accurate financial results across the client''s e-commerce platform, physical stores, supply chain, and backend financial systems.

This is a high-volume, real-time environment where applications process hundreds of millions of transactions each day. The team is currently focused on modernizing aging applications while maintaining strong financial controls and data integrity. In this role, you will partner closely with teams across the enterprise to support timely, complete, and accurate financial transaction processing.

Job Description
As a Kotlin Backend Engineer on this team, you will own feature development end-to-end while contributing to the stabilization and modernization of a complex Finance technology ecosystem.

Key responsibilities include:

Owning feature development from testing through production deployment
Designing and implementing testable, supportable features
Building and maintaining scalable backend services and web applications
Supporting and stabilizing current integrations within a complex Finance technology environment
Contributing to modernization efforts for legacy applications
Collaborating with cross-functional partners to support critical financial processing
Participating actively in Agile team ceremonies, including daily stand-ups and sprint planning

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

Strong professional experience developing backend applications using Kotlin
Experience with Spring Boot
Experience building and supporting RESTful APIs
Experience with Kafka or other event-driven messaging platforms
Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
Experience developing scalable, distributed applications
Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and testable code design
Experience with Git and CI/CD-based delivery workflows
Ability to support production applications in an Agile environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Java
Exposure to React for minor UI support or enhancements
Experience working in financial systems, accounting platforms, or enterprise transaction processing
Experience supporting high-volume retail or e-commerce environments
