The Sr. Design Engineer for the region manages a portfolio of engineering designs to build infrastructure supporting electrical systems for charging electric delivery vehicles. The role includes scoping and developing system-level designs for each site to meet cost targets, functionality requirements, and established standards.
The engineer conducts full site due diligence, defines electrification needs, and ensures the correct equipment is specified, shipped, and installed. As business requirements evolve, the engineer develops technical requirements, integrates hardened and tested products, and navigates site-specific constraints. As the regional lead designer, this role drives alignment on site scope across operations managers, construction project managers, product managers, and utility energy managers. The engineer also shares best practices and advises partner regions on challenges such as subgrade conditions, fire suppression systems, non-standard lots, and other infrastructure hurdles.
Core Responsibilities- Create Revit designs using pre-standardized electrical equipment modules and apply established optimization metrics (equipment utilization, linear foot/module, etc.).
- Manage a portfolio of 20+ active design projects while maintaining visibility into 40+ projects across design, permitting, and construction phases in multiple geographies.
- Resolve complex system-level issues beyond standard electrification and collaborate with local authorities to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal codes.
- Review performance metrics and proactively identify improved data sources and mechanisms related to cost per charger (CPC) and regional deployment goals.
- Collaborate with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
- Develop clear technical narratives and present recommendations to support infrastructure tradeoff decisions, including time-versus-cost considerations.
- Travel to project sites for reviews, engineering evaluations, electrical system audits, and startup support as needed.
- Contribute to a collaborative team culture and bring creative, out-of-the-box solutions to engineering challenges.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or 2+ years of relevant electrical design experience.
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial electrical design experience, including work with developers.
- 2+ years of experience producing design documentation (plans, specifications, etc.) for construction and/or permitting.
Preferred Qualifications- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license and knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
- Experience researching new designs and technologies related to contaminated subgrade and/or fire suppression systems for EV infrastructure.
- Ability to develop creative, cost-reducing solutions without compromising quality, reliability, or maintainability.
- Background in fast-track design/build projects, major upgrade projects, or large-scale electrical distribution systems.
