Position Overview
Apex Systems is seeking a meticulous and safety-conscious Quality Control Laboratory Technician on behalf of a premier client located near Pittsburgh, PA. The successful candidate will ensure the safe, efficient, and accurate processing of chemical and biological samples delivered to the testing laboratory. This role is vital to upholding manufacturing standards, validating material conformity, and maintaining stringent quality assurance records.
Key Responsibilities
- Analytical Testing: Perform specialized laboratory evaluations including Viscosity, Oxidation, Acid/Base titrations, Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy, Physical property assessments, Karl Fischer moisture analysis, and X-Ray analysis.
- Compliance & Procedures: Conduct routine manufacturing and product tests strictly in accordance with the established Laboratory Procedures Manual.
- Formulation Adjustments: Identify, calculate, and record necessary adjustments for off-specification (off-test) materials to bring them into compliance.
- Product Approval: Review, approve, and release compliant on-test materials, ensuring timely and professional communication with relevant production personnel.
- Documentation & Data Analysis: Maintain precise, legible quality control records, including the management of designated Control Charts and statistical evaluation of blend data where applicable.
- Administrative Management: Organize and maintain digital and physical files for all inbound Certificates of Analysis (C/A).
- Administrative Support: Manage occasional switchboard and reception duties as required to support site operations.
- Laboratory Hygiene: Execute laboratory blend preparations and maintain an organized, clean work environment ("good housekeeping" standards).
- Safety & Continuous Improvement: Participate in quality training programs and prioritize a safe work environment by proactively correcting or reporting hazards to management.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Associate of Science (AS) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Experience: Prior hands-on laboratory testing or bench-scale chemistry/biology experience is required.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills, legible documentation habits, familiarity with statistical process control, and working knowledge of standard laboratory safety protocols.
- Residency: This position requires local residency; only candidates currently located in the greater Pittsburgh area will be considered for review
