General Summary:

Qualcomm's Global CAD organization is seeking a senior, hands-on AI technical lead to drive the application of next-generation AI technologies within VLSI and EDA workflows. This is a senior individual contributor role requiring deep technical expertise, strong software engineering skills, and a proven ability to translate rapidly evolving AI capabilities into practical, high-impact engineering solutions.

The successful candidate will work closely with CAD, design, and methodology teams to rethink how modern AI-particularly LLM-based and agentic systems-can transform design automation, verification, debug, optimization, QA, and engineering productivity. This role emphasizes building real systems, continuous adaptation, and delivering impact in a fast-moving AI landscape.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype, and deploy production-quality AI/ML solutions applied to VLSI / EDA problems, including (but not limited to) design automation, verification, debug, optimization, QA, and flow enablement
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and continuously evolve approaches to maintain technical relevance, efficiency, and impact
  • Collaborate closely with global CAD teams to design and develop agentic and adaptive AI systems, from problem formulation and architecture selection through implementation, evaluation, and integration
  • Serve as a hands-on AI technical advisor across teams through design reviews, prototyping, and knowledge sharing
  • Contribute to rethinking traditional CAD abstractions in an AI-driven, agentic workflow model

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, AI workflows, VLSI CAD, or adjacent technical domains
  • Hands-on experience building and applying modern AI/ML systems in real-world engineering environments
  • Strong expertise with LLMs and related technologies, including prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG pipelines, tool/function calling, agent frameworks, etc.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain AI systems beyond research or experimentation

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience in software development, AI workflows, VLSI CAD, or adjacent domains
  • Strong software engineering background with experience integrating AI solutions into production codebases
  • Experience designing, prototyping, and deploying AI solutions applied directly to VLSI design or EDA infrastructure

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field and 10+ years of ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field and 9+ years of ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Science, Engineering, or related field and 8+ years of ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.
