Senior Cloud Engineer (Kubernetes / Terraform) – Remote
6-month contract with likely extension
Fully remote – U.S. (Central or Eastern time zones)
40 hours per week, no overtime
Start date: ASAP
Compensation: 80/hr
We are looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to support a large cloud modernization effort focused on Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, and scalable cloud platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role working on real platform build and migration work, not maintenance-only tasks.
The work centers around modernizing cloud infrastructure, moving existing services into Kubernetes, standardizing tooling across environments, and improving reliability and disaster recovery. This is a strong fit for engineers who enjoy platform engineering, IaC, and solving real-world cloud challenges.
Day to day, the role involves working heavily with Kubernetes (EKS preferred), writing Terraform to support multiple environments, and building infrastructure using AWS CDK in Python. The engineer will also contribute to multi-region architecture, automated failover, and deployment improvements as the platform evolves.
Strong Kubernetes experience is required, along with real production use of Terraform. Experience writing AWS CDK in Python is also important, including understanding how infrastructure code differs from application Python. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-moving modernization environment with evolving requirements.
Nice to have experience includes GitOps or deployment tooling such as Argo, Flux, or GitHub Actions, broader AWS experience, exposure to Google Cloud Platform, observability tooling, or work on highly available or disaster-recovery-focused systems.
This role is fully remote, operates during standard U.S. business hours, and has a strong chance of extension as additional phases of the modernization effort continue.
Relevant skills include Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, EKS, AWS CDK, Python, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, Docker, and Microservices.
If you have deep Kubernetes experience and enjoy building modern cloud platforms instead of maintaining legacy systems, this role is worth consideration.
