NOC Technician - DWDM/Transport/Dark Fiber - US

The NOC Technician - DWDM/Transport/Dark Fiber is responsible for supporting network operations by monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining transport and fiber infrastructure. This role contributes to ensuring network reliability and performance by assisting in incident response, implementation activities, and ongoing maintenance. The technician will collaborate with cross-functional teams and develop technical expertise in DWDM and transport technologies. This position plays a key role in maintaining service continuity and supporting network growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in troubleshooting network outages and service issues under guidance from senior team members.


• Follow established procedures to diagnose and resolve common network problems.


• Escalate complex or critical issues to senior engineers as needed.


• Support network improvement initiatives by assisting with implementation and testing activities.


• Help with equipment installations, upgrades, and routine maintenance tasks.


• Learn and apply new tools and technologies as introduced by the team.


• Work closely with Tier I, Tier II, and engineering teams to support daily operations.


• Communicate updates clearly to internal teams and document troubleshooting steps.


• Contribute to basic documentation, such as runbooks and incident summaries.


• Monitor network performance and respond to alerts.


• Assist in identifying trends or recurring issues and report findings to senior staff.


• Support efforts to maintain network reliability and minimize service disruptions.

Qualifications

Required:

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or related field (or equivalent experience).


• 1-3 years of experience in telecommunications, IT, or network operations (internships count).


• Basic understanding of networking concepts (Layer 1 fundamentals preferred).


• Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced technical environment.


• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.


• Strong communication skills in English / Spanish depending on project needs.

Preferred (Optional):

• Familiarity with DWDM, transport, and dark fiber environments.


• Experience with network monitoring and ticketing systems such as Salesforce, xMatters, and Oracle Assure.


• Exposure to EMS platforms including Ciena One Control, MCP, Preside; Cyan CyMS (Blueplanet); Fujitsu Netsmart 1500; Alcatel Lucent Wavestar, INC (DMX), PHM (1830); and Infinera DNA.


• Experience working with network equipment including Infinera; Fujitsu 4500, 4300, 4100, 7420; Cyan Z77, Z33; Ciena 4200, 6500, 5200, Core Director; and Nokia DMX, 1830.


• Experience with tools, technologies, or methodologies.

Additional Details

The base range for this contract position is $20 - $30 / per hour, depending on experience. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
