Data Engineering & BI Lead (Azure + Databricks)
Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid 3 days onsite)
Employment Type: 1099 Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $80 $90/hour
Overview:
ElevationHR is seeking a hands-on Data Engineering & BI Lead to join a high-impact data initiative within the energy and infrastructure space. This role is ideal for a strong data engineer who is ready to step into a lead position while remaining deeply involved in technical delivery. You will own data solutions end-to-end partnering with business stakeholders, designing scalable data pipelines, and delivering insights that drive real business outcomes.

You will serve as a bridge between business and technology, translating requirements into well-designed, production-ready data solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and define data solutions
- Design, build, and optimize data pipelines using Azure and Databricks
- Develop and maintain data models aligned with reporting and analytics needs
- Support and enhance BI and reporting solutions
- Lead delivery across the full lifecycle from requirements to deployment
- Ensure data quality, performance, and scalability of solutions
- Review code and enforce engineering best practices
- Troubleshoot data issues and resolve production challenges
- Mentor team members and support overall delivery quality
Required Qualifications:
- 5 10+ years of experience in data engineering or related field
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure data ecosystem (Data Factory, Data Lake, Synapse, etc.)
- Experience with Databricks and Spark-based data processing
- Advanced SQL skills
- Proficiency in Python for data processing and pipeline development
- Proven ability to design and build scalable data pipelines
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects or guide technical delivery
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in energy, oil & gas, or utilities industry
- Experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker
- Familiarity with tools such as dbt, Airflow, or similar
- Experience with real-time or streaming data pipelines
Additional Requirements:
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Corp-to-Corp (C2C) engagements are not permitted
- Must be local to Houston, TX or able to work onsite (no relocation provided)
