Summary

Summary

The Workday payroll and time and absence specialist consults with and advises the payroll, HR and finance departments of the Maryland Connect Consortium universities. MD Connect support Workday for five universities in a single tenant. The specialist is responsible for configuring and optimizing the Workday Payroll and time tracking & absence management modules to support effective and compliant and accurate processing. The role requires a high level of expertise in the Workday time & absence & payroll modules.

Specific Roles and Duties for this position

Configure and maintain Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence modules to meet business requirements.
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT teams to gather requirements and design effective solutions.
Analyze current payroll and timekeeping processes to identify areas for improvement and automation.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and labor regulations.
Develop and maintain pay policies, pay codes, earnings/deductions, and absence rules.
Conduct system testing, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements.
Support integrations between Workday and external systems (e.g., benefits providers, financial systems).
Provide end-user training and documentation for payroll and time/absence processes.
Participate in system upgrades, data migrations, and special projects.
Maintain data integrity and perform regular audits and reconciliations.
Stay current with Workday updates and industry best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience with post-production support
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Information Systems, or related field.
3 7 years of experience in Workday Payroll and Time/Absence configuration and support.
Workday certification in Payroll, Time Tracking, or Absence Management preferred.
Strong understanding of payroll processes, gross-to-net calculations, and compliance requirements.
Experience with multi-state payroll processing and tax regulations.
Proficiency in Workday tools including EIBs, calculated fields, and reporting.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills

Experience in an academic environment
Knowledge of other Workday modules such as Core HCM, Compensation, and Benefits.
Experience in project management or leading Workday implementations.
Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables).
Familiarity with integration testing and data conversion processes.
Experience with SOX, GDPR, and ITcompliance is a plus.
