Role: Lead Azure Data Engineer

Location: Dallas, TX- Hybrid- Only Locals-2-3 days onsite

Position: C2C

1. ROLE SUMMARY

This is a senior-level Lead Azure Data Engineer role based in Dallas, TX (Hybrid) on a 12+ month contract engagement. The candidate will lead the migration of business logic from legacy systems into a cloud data warehouse, drive the design and development of transformation pipelines and API/file-based integration workflows, and enforce architecture standards across the engineering team. This is a technical leadership role — the candidate must combine deep hands-on expertise in Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and T-SQL with the ability to mentor engineers, conduct design reviews, and manage technical risks across a cloud migration program.

2. MUST-HAVE SKILLS
- T-SQL (Advanced) – Expert-level T-SQL for complex transformations, stored procedures, performance tuning, and cloud data warehouse development
- Azure Synapse Analytics – Hands-on experience with Synapse as the primary cloud data warehouse — dedicated SQL pools, serverless, and integration runtimes
- Azure Data Factory (ADF) – Building and managing transformation pipelines, integration workflows, triggers, and linked services in production
- Legacy System Migration – Proven experience migrating business logic and data models from on-premise or legacy systems to a cloud data warehouse
- ETL/ELT Pipeline Development – Designing and building scalable, maintainable transformation pipelines — file-based and API-based integration patterns
- CI/CD Pipeline Integration – Integrating data engineering workflows into CI/CD pipelines — version control, automated testing, and deployment automation
- Performance Tuning & Debugging – Diagnosing and resolving pipeline failures, query bottlenecks, and scalability issues in production environments
- Technical Leadership – Leading design reviews, enforcing coding standards, mentoring engineers, and managing technical risk across a data migration program
3. GOOD-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- Azure Databricks – distributed processing alongside Synapse for large-scale transformations
- Python / PySpark – scripting for pipeline automation and advanced data transformations
- Snowflake – exposure to alternative cloud warehouse platforms
- Azure DevOps – managing CI/CD pipelines, repos, and release management for data workloads
- Data modeling (Dimensional / Star Schema) – designing analytical data models in a cloud warehouse context
- Delta Lake / Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 – layered storage architecture (bronze/silver/gold)
- Power BI or reporting layer integration – understanding of how downstream BI tools consume warehouse data
- Agile / Scrum – experience delivering in sprint-based teams with defined story points and backlog grooming
- Data governance and lineage awareness – metadata management and impact analysis on migrated business logic
