Senior Android Performance Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Android Performance Engineer to optimize complex Android applications across UI, rendering, and application frameworks. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Android performance profiling, system-level optimization, memory management, and power and thermal performance.

The candidate will be responsible for identifying performance bottlenecks, diagnosing complex issues, implementing optimization solutions, and developing automated performance testing frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Android performance profiling, including UI jank, ANRs, memory, thermal, and system performance analysis.

• Identify, diagnose, and resolve Android UI, rendering, and system performance bottlenecks.

• Optimize application performance across CPU, GPU, memory, and power consumption.

• Define, track, and report Android performance KPIs related to memory, energy, power, and thermal performance.

• Develop, maintain, and integrate performance monitoring tools and automated testing frameworks.

• Implement and maintain performance tests, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing for CI/CD pipelines.

• Perform in-depth performance data analysis and develop custom tools for actionable insights.

• Provide technical guidance, review architecture, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

• 5+ years of experience in Android Performance Engineering.

• Strong programming experience in Java and Kotlin.

• Deep understanding of Android OS architecture, frameworks, and system performance.

• Expert hands-on experience with Android performance profiling tools such as Android Studio Profiler, Perfetto, Systrace, ADB, dumpsys, and Battery Historian.

• Proven experience diagnosing and resolving complex Android performance issues.

• Strong knowledge of memory management, memory leaks, CPU/GPU performance, power management, and thermal behavior.

• Experience optimizing Android UI performance, including View hierarchies, RecyclerView, animations, rendering, and overdraw.

• Experience with Android performance testing frameworks such as Macrobenchmark, Microbenchmark, and Espresso.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of power management and battery-life analysis techniques.

• Experience with automated testing for native iOS/macOS applications using XCUITest.

• Experience with iOS/macOS application development using Swift, SwiftUI, or Objective-C.

Work Location

This is an onsite opportunity based in Cupertino, California. Candidates should be comfortable working onsite for the duration of the contract.
