Job Title: Data Modeler Insurance Domain Location: San Diego, CA Duration: Long Term Contract
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Data Modeler with strong insurance domain expertise to design and maintain enterprise data models supporting policy, claims, underwriting, billing, and analytics systems. The ideal candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and BI teams to translate business requirements into scalable and high-quality data models.
Key Responsibilities
Design and maintain Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Models
Develop dimensional models (Star & Snowflake schemas) for insurance analytics and reporting
Translate insurance business requirements into accurate data structures
Define tables, attributes, keys, relationships, and constraints
Create and maintain data dictionaries, metadata, and naming standards
Support data warehouse and cloud migration initiatives
Collaborate with ETL, BI, and application teams to ensure data consistency
Ensure data governance, quality, and compliance standards are followed
Perform reverse engineering of existing databases when required
Required Skills & Qualifications
6+ years of experience in Data Modeling
Strong knowledge of insurance domain (Claims, Policy, Premium, Underwriting)
Expertise in Dimensional Modeling
Advanced SQL skills
Hands-on experience with ERwin, ER/Studio, or PowerDesigner
Experience with Data Warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse)
Strong understanding of relational database design
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
Knowledge of Data Governance, Lineage, and Metadata Management
Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)
Insurance regulatory or compliance exposure
Agile / Scrum environment experience
