OverviewWe are seeking a Software Test Engineer to support a short-term project involving manual testing of a legacy medical device. This role focuses on validating software functionality for a camera-based device used in pediatric vision assessments. The position is primarily manual/black-box testing with hands-on interaction with the device, its UI, and simple networking components.
Key Responsibilities- Design and update test protocols based on design modifications and software requirements.
- Execute test plans covering functional, integration, system, and performance testing.
- Gather evidence to validate software behavior and confirm it meets specified requirements.
- Identify, document, and track software defects and inconsistencies; collaborate with engineering teams to reproduce and troubleshoot issues.
- Work closely with cross-functional partners including software engineers, the test manager, design assurance, and product stakeholders.
- Create and maintain clear and organized test documentation, including test cases, test plans, test reports, and defect logs.
- Set up and use small contained networks for device testing.
- Connect the device to printers and basic web services for data upload/download scenarios.
- Operate the device's touchscreen interface and follow detailed manual test steps.
- Occasionally interact with electro-mechanical components as part of the testing process.
Requirements QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's Degree or 4 years equivalent experience
- Certifications in software testing or quality assurance are a plus.
Experience- 1-2+ years of software testing experience (various industries welcome).
- Experience in medical device or healthcare environments is helpful but not required.
- Familiarity with imaging systems or camera-based devices is desirable.
Technical Skills- Understanding of software testing methodologies (black-box, white-box fundamentals, performance testing).
- Ability to work with simple networks (e.g., connecting to a router or small test network).
- Ability to connect devices to printers and basic web services.
- Comfort working with electro-mechanical devices.
- Nice-to-have (not required): experience with basic electrical test equipment (volt meters, oscilloscopes), or electrical/technical background.
Soft Skills- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams.
