Summary

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly technical, execution-focused Hardware & Software Engineering Applications System Administrator to support a core engineering applications environment.

The System Administrator is responsible for the direct operational and technical execution of daily installation, packaging, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting activities for specialized research and development application toolchains.

The successful candidate will provide disciplined operational support across a global network of engineering and design locations. The role focuses on removing engineering environment blockers, improving developer productivity, and supporting the rapid iteration and specialized tools required for high-performance product development. Responsibilities include executing provisioning workflows that accelerate engineer readiness and reduce onboarding productivity gaps.

 

Work Location & Onsite Requirement

This position requires regular onsite collaboration with the manager and engineering stakeholders. Candidates must be able to work from one of the following office locations:

Primary location: Richardson, Texas, United States.

Location preference: Candidates able to work from the Richardson office will have a significant advantage.

This is a newly established position. Candidates should be prepared for a highly technical first interview focused on direct engineering-application administration and troubleshooting experience.

Priority Technical Requirements

The following capabilities are essential for this opening:

Engineering applications and Windchill: Direct, hands-on experience installing, configuring, patching, and troubleshooting one or more of Cadence, Synopsys, Ansys, PTC Creo, or Windchill. Direct ECAD and PLM application administration experience is strongly preferred.

License and application operations: Experience administering FlexLM, RMS, or comparable license-management environments; packaging engineering applications; and executing Day-1 engineering onboarding and provisioning playbooks.

DevOps and cross-platform support: Experience supporting Azure DevOps, Jira, Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes across Windows and Linux environments.

Core Responsibilities

1. Hands-on Application Operations & New Hire Enablement

Execute onboarding provisioning: Implement and run automated application provisioning playbooks so new software and hardware engineers are equipped with the required specialized toolsets.

Technical tool maintenance: Manage daily installation, configuration, application packaging, patching, and technical integration of specialized R&D software across physical lab systems and cloud-based engineering workstations.

Day-to-day engineering support: Serve as a hands-on technical bridge between corporate IT infrastructure and engineering teams, resolving environment blockers and optimizing execution workflows.

2. Hardware Engineering Toolchain & License Administration

EDA and CAD deployment: Execute application packaging, license tracking, and configuration management for a multi-disciplinary hardware engineering application environment.

Hands-on toolchain maintenance: Provide direct administrative and technical troubleshooting support for specialized hardware engineering environments, helping maintain availability for the application suites below.

Mechanical & Thermal: PTC Creo, Windchill PLM/Reliability, SolidWorks, Simcenter FloTHERM, and Cadence Celsius EC.

Electrical & Power: Cadence OrCAD Capture, ConceptHDL, Synopsys HSPICE, and Ansys Electronics.

Signal/Power Integrity (SI/PI): Cadence Sigrity, Agilent ADS, HyperLynx, and Keysight SystemVue.

PCBA Layout & Logic/FPGA: Cadence Allegro PCB Designer, Altium, Valor NPI, Siemens QuestaSim, AMD Vivado, Altera Quartus, and Lattice Diamond.

Optics & Photonics: COMSOL, Lumerical, Optiwave, VPIphotonics, and Zemax.

License server operations: Administer and monitor central concurrent-user license managers, including license queue configurations and multi-tenant tracking utilities.

 

3. Software Engineering, DevOps & Lab Test Support

ALM & DevOps support: Provide direct operational support for application lifecycle management, source control, collaboration, and container platforms using Azure DevOps, Jira Cloud Enterprise, Confluence Cloud Premium, Git, GitKraken, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Firmware & secure development lifecycle: Administer specialized secure code compilation and vulnerability environments, including AMI BIOS/BMC source-code toolchains, Green Hills MULTI compilers, Black Duck, Coverity, OPSWAT MetaDefender, and Defensics.

Validation & lab synchronization: Manage local deployment, active licensing, and update synchronization for specialized validation and lab testing software, including Ixia IxNetwork, Spirent TestCenter, Wireshark, LabVIEW, TestStand, and hardware debugger IDEs such as SEGGER J-Link, TI Code Composer, and Arm Keil.

 

Technical Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise IT system administration or application engineering, including at least 2+ years focused on supporting an active R&D engineering team.

 

Strongly Preferred Certifications

• CompTIA Linux+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.

• Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional.

• Certified Jira System Administrator.

 

Soft Skills & Working Style

Detailed documentation: Proven ability to create accurate application installation playbooks, packaging documentation, and troubleshooting scripts.

Tactical problem solver: Strong technical troubleshooting skills, including identifying workarounds and diagnosing complex engineering application issues in secure enterprise environments.

Cross-functional partner: Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with engineering teams, project managers, and global infrastructure support teams.

Resource optimization: Highly organized approach to tracking software license utilization, preventing downtime, and advising management about upcoming software capacity needs or maintenance renewals.
