Position Overview
We are seeking a high-caliber Mainframe Lead with over 10 years of experience to drive the analysis, design, and development of critical enterprise applications. This role requires a hands-on leader who can mentor a technical team while maintaining deep involvement in COBOL, IMS DB, and DB2 development. The Lead will bridge the gap between technical execution and business strategy, ensuring scalable solutions and high-performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Leadership & Mentoring: Manage a team of mainframe developers, providing technical direction, conducting code reviews, and fostering skill development.
* Technical Design: Lead design sessions for complex solutions and define architectural standards for COBOL, JCL, and DB2 environments.
* Performance Optimization: Monitor application health and implement tuning strategies to optimize mainframe performance.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements, assess feasibility, and present project status to senior management.
* Collaboration: Coordinate with offshore teams to align deliverables and work with QA teams to define automated testing strategies.
* Standards Enforcement: Ensure strict adherence to coding best practices and architectural integrity across all initiatives.
Required Qualifications
* Experience: 10+ years of expertise in mainframe development with proven leadership or team management experience.
* Core Tech Stack: Advanced proficiency in IBM Mainframe, COBOL, JCL, IMS DB, and DB2.
* Tooling: Hands-on experience with Xpediter, Abend-AID, File Manager, ADCP, and GitHub.
* Methodology: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum frameworks.
* Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical business audiences.
* Note: This is a development-heavy leadership role; candidates with only production support experience will not be considered.
