Position Overview

Client is seeking an experienced Mainframe COBOL / NaturalOne Developer to enhance an existing mainframe accounting platform by introducing composite reservoir accounts. These accounts pool balances from multiple subsidiary accounts into a central reservoir account under defined sweep and allocation rules.

The developer will analyze a large, lightly documented legacy codebase and extend existing functionality to support account posting, settlement, accruals, reporting, and reconciliation. Financial accuracy, auditability, and traceability are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing account master, posting, and balance-maintenance programs to identify required changes and document findings.
  • Design and develop composite reservoir account functionality, including master files, tables, account opening and closing, participant linkage, sweep and reverse-sweep processing, allocation, interest apportionment, and closing balance calculations.
  • Modify batch COBOL programs and JCL to incorporate new processing into nightly and month-end cycles within agreed batch windows.
  • Extend audit trails, exception reporting, and reconciliation controls in collaboration with accounting stakeholders.
  • Create test data, unit tests, regression test packs, and parallel-run comparisons against current production output.
  • Investigate and explain all differences identified during testing and reconciliation.
  • Support implementation, conversion of in-scope existing accounts, and initial production cycles, including on-call coverage.
  • Maintain program documentation, data-flow notes, and operational runbooks.
  • Follow formal change control procedures, including peer review and signed-off implementation plans.
