Job Description

The Role

As a Principal Engineer within the Technical and Planning Solutions (TPS) practice, you will be a key contributor to GE Vernova's business initiatives. You will lead high-impact studies to support the energy transition, ensuring grid reliability as we integrate renewable and thermal resources into bulk power systems. This position offers the flexibility of remote work within the United States.

Key Responsibilities
  • Grid Analysis: Lead transmission system studies, including load flow, stability, short-circuit, and voltage analysis.
  • Renewable Integration: Evaluate grid code compliance and the impact of renewable energy projects on bulk power systems.
  • Advanced Modeling: Perform power system transient studies and develop detailed equipment models.
  • Stability Studies: Conduct small-signal stability analyses to identify poorly damped oscillatory modes, evaluate modal characteristics, and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Power Quality: Execute harmonic and power quality studies for transmission, distribution, and interconnection projects to ensure compliance with utility and industry standards.
  • Consultative Impact: Support business development through proposal writing and client engagement. Effectively translate complex technical results into clear, actionable value propositions for customers.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent GE Vernova at regional forums and industry conferences; contribute to technical papers and industry standard working groups.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electric Power Engineering.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of industry experience performing short-circuit, transient, steady-state, and dynamic power system analysis using tools such as ASPEN OneLiner, PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP, and large-scale simulation platforms (PSS E, TARA, PowerFactory, PSLF, DSATools).
  • Seven (7) years of experience applying common programming languages (Python, MATLAB, FORTRAN) to engineering problems.
  • A Ph.D. in Electrical/Power Engineering with five (5) years of relevant industry experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
  • Strong background in power system analysis, including a solid understanding of inverter-based resource (IBR) control system design and application.
  • Familiarity with regional transmission organization (RTO/ISO) requirements (e.g., PJM, CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, SPP).

Eligibility Requirements
  • Ability to travel up to 20% to support project work, team collaboration, and industry conferences.
  • This position is eligible for remote work within the United States.

Desired Characteristics
  • Advanced experience creating and modifying dynamic user models in simulation tools (PSS/E, TARA, PowerFactory, DSATools, PSLF).
  • Demonstrated expertise in electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation tools (PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP).
  • Experience using C or C++ for system automation and model development.
  • Proven track record of technical publication (IEEE/CIGRE) and active participation in industry standards bodies.
  • Project management experience or experience with data center power studies.

Principales responsabilits
  • Analyse du rseau : diriger des tudes de rseaux de transport, notamment des analyses de flux de charge, de stabilit, de court-circuit et de tension.
  • Intgration des nergies renouvelables : valuer la conformit aux codes de rseau et l'incidence des projets d'nergie renouvelable sur les grands rseaux lectriques.
  • Modlisation avance : raliser des tudes transitoires de rseaux lectriques et dvelopper des modles dtaills d'quipements.
  • tudes de stabilit : mener des analyses de stabilit aux petites perturbations afin d'identifier les modes oscillatoires faiblement amortis, d'valuer les caractristiques modales et de recommander des mesures d'attnuation.
  • Qualit de l'nergie : raliser des tudes harmoniques et de qualit de l'nergie pour des projets de transport, de distribution et d'interconnexion afin d'assurer la conformit aux normes des services publics et de l'industrie.
  • Impact consultatif : soutenir le dveloppement des affaires par la rdaction de propositions et l'engagement auprs des clients. Traduire efficacement des rsultats techniques complexes en propositions de valeur claires et exploitables pour les clients.
  • Leadership d'opinion : reprsenter GE Vernova dans des forums rgionaux et lors de confrences de l'industrie; contribuer des articles techniques et des groupes de travail sur les normes de l'industrie.

Qualifications requises
  • Matrise en gnie lectrique ou en gnie de l'nergie lectrique.
  • Au moins sept (7) annes d'exprience dans l'industrie raliser des analyses de rseaux lectriques de court-circuit, transitoires, en rgime permanent et dynamiques l'aide d'outils tels qu'ASPEN OneLiner, PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP et de plateformes de simulation grande chelle (PSS E, TARA, PowerFactory, PSLF, DSATools).

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
