Azure Database Engineer - Data Lakehouse

About the engagement

A Minnesota state agency is consolidating child welfare data from 87 county databases into a centralized Azure data lake ahead of a large modernization program. Integration Architects is hiring one full time Azure Database Engineer to help analyze, design, build, and secure that environment, with primary focus on the Data Lakehouse and the integrated data reserves behind it. This role also mentors other database engineers on the team.

Integration Architects is a Twin Cities IT consulting firm that has delivered for Minnesota public sector clients since 2000. Small team, direct access to the owner, no layers between you and the decision maker.

What you will do

• Design and implement relational and non relational databases in Azure
• Build and maintain data transformation solutions
• Optimize data access patterns for performance and cost
• Coordinate with security teams to meet state standards
• Implement backup, disaster recovery, and geo replication strategies
• Maintain design and operational documentation
• Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to other engineers

Required experience

• 7 years designing, developing, and implementing data lakes and relational and non relational databases in Azure
• Databricks
• Oracle databases
• Data transformation solutions and cloud infrastructure integration
• Coding and testing programs and scripts to load data using Azure data load utilities
• CI/CD pipelines
• Azure Monitor, Azure Data Factory, SQL Analytics, Query Performance Insight, Azure Resource Manager, and Azure CLI or PowerShell
• Azure SQL instances, managed instances, and elastic pools
• Data modeling, schema design, and indexing strategies
• Role based access control, encryption, and network security
• Demonstrated experience mentoring other engineers in these technologies

Nice to have

• Data warehouse administration, including Teradata
• Prior state or local government delivery experience
• Health and human services or child welfare data background

Process

One phone screening and then one or two interviews conducted over Microsoft Teams. Candidates must be available for interview on request or they will be removed from consideration. Work must be performed within the United States.
