AI & Data Strategy Consultant – Financial Services – Hybrid Onsite

For our direct client, a financial firm in midtown NYC, we seek an experienced AI  & Data Strategy Consultant to do some initial discovery and then implement some practical, firm-wide AI and automation.

This engagement focuses on identifying high-impact, realistic AI use cases across asset management, finance, and reporting, working primarily with unstructured deal data (PDFs, Excel models, Word documents stored in SharePoint and shared drives). The client is not pursuing a large-scale data re-architecture and is seeking a pragmatic practitioner who can lead discovery, validate feasibility, and define actionable next steps.

This position requires 3-4 days/week initially in the Midtown NYC office, in order to conduct discovery sessions and work with the client team.
 

Responsibilities

• Lead a structured AI discovery effort across asset management, finance, and reporting teams
• Assess unstructured data sources (SharePoint, shared drives, deal folders) and current workflows
• Identify and prioritize high-value AI and automation opportunities with clear ROI
• Evaluate approaches for search and insight extraction across historical deal data
• Define and, where appropriate, prototype practical solutions (e.g., secure AI search, RAG-based insights, workflow automation)
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and an external IT/AI advisor to ensure feasibility, security, and governance
• Present clear findings, recommendations, and proposed pilot initiatives to senior leadership

Desired Skills & Experience

• Hands-on experience applying AI in private equity, real estate, asset management, or financial services
• Strong understanding of working with unstructured data using modern AI techniques
• Experience in Microsoft-centric environments (SharePoint, Excel, Microsoft 365; Copilot Studio a plus)
• Ability to operate in ambiguous environments and lead discovery before solution design
• Practical, business-oriented mindset with skepticism toward AI “hype”
• Proven ability to deliver solutions that reduce manual effort and improve accuracy
