Job Description
We are seeking a Network Operations Resident Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in enterprise campus networking, large-scale switching and routing, wireless, and AI-driven operations and a proven ability to stabilize and optimize network operations while driving migrations, upgrades, and lifecycle initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical resource supporting network operations and infrastructure initiatives.
- Act as the technical liaison between the customer and HPE Networking teams.
- Provide day-to-day support for campus switching, routing, and wireless infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues with HPE Networking support and engineering.
- Support technology refreshes, upgrades, migrations, and expansion projects.
- Analyze network performance and recommend improvements for reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
- Develop implementation, validation, rollback plans, and operational runbooks.
- Plan, test, validate, and support software upgrades and deployments.
- Coordinate hardware lifecycle activities and RMA management.
- Deliver operational reviews and status updates on network health, risks, and initiatives.
- Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to customer personnel.
- Identify opportunities for automation and operational improvement.
- Define and promote best practices for deployment, operations, and lifecycle management of HPE Networking solutions.
Campus Switching and Routing:
- Support enterprise campus switching and routing infrastructure.
- Perform configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and operations.
- Troubleshoot VLANs, spanning tree, link aggregation, routing, multicast, and high availability.
- Support EX Series and QFX Series switching platforms.
- Support software upgrades, hardware replacements, and refresh projects.
- Assist with implementation and validation of new network services.
- Support large-scale switch deployments, migrations, and expansions.
- Provide support for EVPN/VXLAN architectures where applicable.
Wireless and AI-Driven Networking:
- Support wireless environments utilizing Mist Wireless Assurance.
- Support AI-driven operations through Mist Wired Assurance and Marvis AI.
- Use AI-driven insights, analytics, and service-level data to identify and resolve issues.
- Analyze user experience metrics, client performance, and service indicators.
- Support monitoring, optimization, and adoption of AI-assisted capabilities.
- Assist with modernization and migrations from legacy wireless to Mist-managed solutions.
- Recommend improvements that enhance user experience and performance.
Network Migration and Transformation:
- Support large-scale migration and transformation initiatives.
- Participate in planning, implementation, testing, and validation.
- Migrate legacy environments to modern cloud-managed platforms.
- Validate operational readiness and ensure service adoption post-implementation.
- Minimize risk through structured change management and testing.
- Assist with deployment and activation of new infrastructure.
Advanced Troubleshooting and Incident Management:
- Lead investigations for complex and business-critical incidents.
- Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with HPE Networking support and engineering to resolve issues.
- Escalate and manage critical issues through HPE support processes.
- Correlate issues across wired, wireless, authentication, routing, security, and applications.
- Develop troubleshooting documentation and operational best practices.
- Manage technical cases through resolution and support major incident reviews.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation:
- Continuously monitor network health and performance.
- Produce reports on incidents, trends, risks, and improvements.
- Maintain procedures, configuration standards, and documentation.
- Create implementation, testing, validation, and rollback plans.
- Participate in service reviews and governance meetings.
- Deliver regular executive and technical status updates.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years supporting large-scale enterprise network environments.
- Strong expertise in enterprise switching and routing, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 concepts.
- Hands-on experience with EX Series and QFX Series switching platforms.
- Experience with routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
- Experience with Mist Wireless Assurance, Mist Wired Assurance, and Marvis AI.
- Background supporting large campus networks and wireless deployments, including migrations and upgrades.
- Strong troubleshooting, fault isolation, and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience with large-scale migration, modernization, and lifecycle projects.
- Experience collaborating with HPE Networking support and engineering teams.
- Strong customer-facing communication and relationship management abilities.
- Ability to work independently as a trusted technical advisor with excellent documentation and presentation skills.
- Experience supporting production networks in visible enterprise organizations.
- Must be based in and legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with EVPN/VXLAN campus architectures.
- Familiarity with automation for network operations and reporting.
