Role: Software Engineer (Java + AI)

Type: 6-month contract (W2), hybrid/on-site schedule

Location: Jacksonville, FL (local candidates within driving distance preferred)

Non-Negotiables:

• Senior-level Java development (hands-on) + strong SDLC, unit testing, and release/change management, 5 plus years
• Modern AI engineering: agentic systems, LLMs/embeddings, vector databases/RAG, prompt engineering, and productionizing AI solutions
• AWS in hybrid cloud/on-prem environments (e.g., EC2, Lambda, SageMaker or equivalent AI/ML services)
• Data/platform engineering exposure: Snowflake migration, DBT, data integrations (e.g., Dell Boomi), and Postgres/MongoDB (+ Iceberg tables)

Role Overview:

GuideWell is seeking a senior Software Engineer (Java + AI) to help design and build scalable enterprise solutions spanning application development, data modernization, and AI initiatives. This role is hands-on and will contribute directly to production AI systems, including agentic architectures, integrations, and governance-focused solutions across AWS and on-prem environments. You'll provide technical leadership while delivering reusable components that improve scalability, security, and long-term maintainability. This is a hybrid Jacksonville role with video panel and final onsite interview steps.

Job Description:

Sr. JAVA Developers are responsible for the development, programming, and coding of Information Technology solutions. Senior IT Developers are responsible for documenting detailed system specifications, participation in unit testing and maintenance of planned and unplanned internally developed applications, evaluation and performance testing of purchased products. Senior IT Developers are responsible for including IT Controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity, as well as availability of the application and data processed or output by the application. Senior IT Developers lead efforts, oversee work results, provide training and serve as a technical resource for other Developers.

REQUIREMENTS:
Experience with unit testing, release procedures, coding design and documentation protocol as well as change management procedures
Proficiency using versioning tools: GIT, GNU, RCS, SCCS, CVS, SVN, Mercurial, Monotone, etc
Demonstrated organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills

Manipulate data from various sources / formats such as: flat files, relational databases, non-relational databases, XML, JSON, etc.

Additional Requirements (AI role):

• Hands on development experience and ability to contribute to AI initiates. This role requires technical expertise in modern AI infrastructure, agentic systems, and cloud architecture, with a strong commitment to hands-on development and implementation.
• AWS expertise: EC2, Lambda, SageMaker, or equivalent AI/ML services
• Agentic systems: Proven experience building or deploying agent-based architectures
• MCP (Model Context Protocol): On-premises and cloud implementations
• Agentic patterns: Multi-agent systems, orchestration, tool integration
• Core AI Components: LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, retrieval systems, prompt engineering
• Production deployment: Experience moving AI systems from development to production

Additional Responsibilities:

• Design and implement AI solutions using agentic patterns and core AI components
• Design and Develop scalable systems across AWS and on-premises environments
• Actively code and contribute to production AI systems (not purely architectural/design)
• Mentor and guide development teams on AI best practices
• Evaluate and integrate emerging AI technologies and frameworks

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement which combines flexibility with in-office engagement. Team schedules are determined based on role requirements and business needs. Travel to and from our corporate or regional offices may be required.
