Construction Manager (High Voltage Substations) in California - San Francisco Bay Area & Gilroy
  • Competitive hourly rate (based on experience)

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead high-voltage substation and energy infrastructure projects across California.

This is a hands-on, field-focused role where you will drive construction execution from start to finish-ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in full compliance with utility standards.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Lead daily construction activities across substation and power infrastructure projects
  • Oversee both civil (grading, foundations, site work) and electrical (HV equipment, wiring, commissioning) scopes
  • Manage contractors, subcontractors, and field crews to ensure quality and schedule adherence
  • Conduct site walks, track progress, and provide detailed field reporting
  • Lead construction meetings including safety briefings, coordination meetings, and progress reviews

Substation Scope Includes:
  • Power transformers
  • Circuit breakers & switchgear
  • Bus structures & conductor installation
  • Grounding systems & cable routing
  • Coordination of energization and commissioning activities

Safety & Compliance:
  • Champion a strong safety culture and enforce OSHA and site-specific protocols
  • Ensure compliance with California utility standards (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E)
  • Maintain strict quality control aligned with engineering and design intent

What You Bring:
  • 10-15+ years of construction management experience in power/energy infrastructure
  • Proven experience with high-voltage substation projects (69kV-500kV+)
  • Strong expertise across both civil and electrical scopes
  • Experience working with California utilities
  • Ability to manage complex field operations, schedules, and budgets

Nice to Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
  • EPC or Owner's Representative experience
  • CAISO or grid interconnection project experience
  • OSHA 30+ certification
