Construction Manager (High Voltage Substations) in California - San Francisco Bay Area & Gilroy

Competitive hourly rate (based on experience)
24-month contract / consulting
On-site / project-based
Travel required (per diem provided based on project location)

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead high-voltage substation and energy infrastructure projects across California.

This is a hands-on, field-focused role where you will drive construction execution from start to finish-ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in full compliance with utility standards.

What You'll Be Doing:

Lead daily construction activities across substation and power infrastructure projects
Oversee both civil (grading, foundations, site work) and electrical (HV equipment, wiring, commissioning) scopes
Manage contractors, subcontractors, and field crews to ensure quality and schedule adherence
Conduct site walks, track progress, and provide detailed field reporting
Lead construction meetings including safety briefings, coordination meetings, and progress reviews

Substation Scope Includes:

Power transformers
Circuit breakers & switchgear
Bus structures & conductor installation
Grounding systems & cable routing
Coordination of energization and commissioning activities

Safety & Compliance:

Champion a strong safety culture and enforce OSHA and site-specific protocols
Ensure compliance with California utility standards (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E)
Maintain strict quality control aligned with engineering and design intent

What You Bring:

10-15+ years of construction management experience in power/energy infrastructure
Proven experience with high-voltage substation projects (69kV-500kV+)
Strong expertise across both civil and electrical scopes
Experience working with California utilities
Ability to manage complex field operations, schedules, and budgets

Nice to Have:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
EPC or Owner's Representative experience
CAISO or grid interconnection project experience
OSHA 30+ certification
