Java Tech Lead

About the Role

We're looking for a Java Tech Lead to guide the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-performance backend systems. In this role, you'll combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership – setting architectural direction, mentoring engineers, and ensuring our systems are robust, secure, and built to scale. You'll work closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams to turn business requirements into resilient, well-engineered software.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design and development of complex, distributed Java-based applications and microservices
• Define technical architecture and make key design decisions in partnership with senior engineering and architecture teams
• Write high-quality, well-tested, maintainable code and set the technical bar for the team
• Conduct thorough code reviews, enforce engineering best practices, and drive continuous improvement in code quality
• Mentor and coach a team of engineers, providing technical guidance and supporting their career growth
• Own end-to-end delivery of features, from technical design through deployment and production support
• Collaborate with DevOps/SRE teams to ensure systems are observable, resilient, and performant in production
• Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, test automation, and infrastructure-as-code
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Identify technical debt and proactively lead initiatives to improve system reliability, security, and performance
• Participate in sprint planning, architecture reviews, and other agile ceremonies, providing technical thought leadership

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep expertise in Java (Java 11+)
• Strong experience with Spring Framework / Spring Boot and building RESTful microservices
• Proven experience leading technical design and architecture for large-scale, distributed systems
• Solid understanding of design patterns, object-oriented principles, and clean code practices
• Hands-on experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra)
• Experience with messaging/streaming systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and version control (Git)
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience mentoring or leading engineering teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in an agile, fast-paced product development environment
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture and domain-driven design
• Experience with observability tooling (Splunk, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
• Background in fintech, financial services, or other highly regulated industries
• Security-first mindset with experience implementing secure coding practices
