Job Title:
Staff Engineer, Power Electronics

Reporting To:
Manager, Project Engineering

Work Schedule:
Onsite - Phoenix, AZAbout the role

As a Staff Project Engineer, you'll be the go-to technical authority for all spacecraft avionics programs. You'll establish and enforce architecture standards, lead multi-program risk and schedule management, resolve the toughest technical challenges, and mentor project teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of flight-grade hardware.

Key responsibilities
  • Define and enforce avionics architecture standards across programs (interfaces, performance budgets, power/system partitioning)
  • Oversee requirements management, traceability, and verification strategies company-wide
  • Chair and drive technical reviews (prelim, critical, qualification, and flight build gates) to closure
  • Lead multi-program risk management to include risk registers, and corrective-action plans
  • Serve as the escalation point for system-level anomalies, orchestrating root-cause investigations and corrective actions
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (hardware, firmware/FPGA, software, test, manufacturing, suppliers) to harmonize processes and deliverables
  • Mentor and coach Lead and Senior Project Engineers-share best practices, conduct training, and foster continuous improvement
  • Improve project-engineering workflows: change-control (ECR/ECO), configuration management, earned-value reporting, and lessons-learned capture

Must-have qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on systems engineering experience in spacecraft avionics or equally complex electronic systems - specific to power electronics at the circuit card and sub-assembly level.
  • Proven track record leading multiple concurrent programs, defining architecture, and delivering flight-grade hardware
  • Deep expertise in at least three of: requirements management, PCB/FPGA design & review, spacecraft electronics, complex system design, avionics testing
  • Strong proficiency with one or more program-management and requirements tools and methodologies (MS Project, JIRA/Confluence, EVMS, JAMA, Polarian, etc)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical reviews, drive risk-mitigation activities, and manage change-control processes
  • Exceptional communication skills-able to present to executives, write clear technical reports, and negotiate trade-offs
  • Electrical Engineering Bachelor's Degree or Similar

Nice-to-have

  • Hands-on experience with space standards and interfaces (SpaceWire, Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, RS-422/TTL)
  • Background in environmental qualification (vibration, thermal-vacuum, EMI/EMC) and lab automation
  • Familiarity with quality systems (ISO 9001, ECSS) or advanced DFx methodologies
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field
